Do you really believe Bute is going to move up? Dawson said he would move down but now doesnt seem to want to. Shaw called Cloud a "nobody who will not get a fight with Dawson" thats fear and I believe that Shaw is pumping his fear propaganda on this site

After defeating Woods, HBO offered Cloud a spot on its network against Dawson or in the co-feature on a show headlined by Dawson, whose promoter, Gary Shaw, once again, refused to fight Tavoris or even allow Chad to fight on the same HBO card.

Team Cloud believes there’s another reason why Dawson won’t fight Cloud and it doesn’t have anything to do with purse structures or name recognition. “Back in 2001,” Cloud’s head trainer Al Bonanni explained, “Dawson and Cloud were both outstanding amateurs. They sparred in 2001 at the U.S. Olympic training camp. Tavoris floored Dawson and hurt his eye. After that, Dawson was moved down to 168 pounds, instead of competing with Cloud at 175. Dawson still fears Tavoris Cloud and that’s why he won’t get in the ring with him. We’re willing to fight Dawson or any of the top light heavyweights in the world.” Cloud says: “I’m baffled, I guess, more than frustrated. All my life watching boxing, I thought the champion had to fight the next available, most deserving challenger, or unify the title. I was the No. 1 contender and he was the champ, but that’s when all the politics of boxing came in – extensions and exceptions – and his promoter lobbied to duck this hungry fighter. I understand the promoter building a fighter and arranging puff fights for more money. At some point, though, a real fighter has to fight the best. You can’t be great just fighting hand-picked, over-the-hill guys.”

First, Dawson will go where the big money is. How many American champs would be willing to go to Montreal to fight the challenger? Not many.

Second, you have that story laughably wrong. Cloud was offered the slot on the undercard but turned it down.

Here's the story from last year on ESPN:

    "...
Rather than be forced to fight obscure mandatory challenger Tavoris Cloud this fall in a bout that HBO, which has Dawson under contract, had no interest in televising, Dawson vacated his IBF light heavyweight belt on Wednesday.

Dawson's move paves the way for his team to finalize negotiations for a fall rematch with former champion Glen Johnson, who dropped a controversial decision to him 13 months ago in one of the best action fights of 2008.

    .....

"People want to see Chad in a rematch with Johnson, not against Cloud. Johnson deserves a rematch and now we're giving it to him."
Cloud (19-0, 18 KOs), 27, is an exciting puncher but has virtually no name recognition. He hasn't fought since stopping former titleholder Julio Gonzalez in the 10th round in his only televised fight last summer on ESPN2.

In order to help build to a potential fight with Dawson, Shaw said he offered Cloud's team a deal under which Cloud would fight on HBO's Dawson-Johnson II televised undercard with the guarantee that if Cloud and Dawson, 26, both won, Dawson's next defense would come against Cloud on HBO, which had approved the plan.
Shaw said Cloud's team turned it down, even though Cloud would have made "way more money" under that plan that he will now by fighting for a vacant belt without HBO's backing.
"The networks aren't interested in Cloud and he would be a step down for Chad at this point in his career," Shaw said. "But we were willing to fight him under that deal. Cloud's people turned it down. To me, Cloud's people are mismanaging his career and not doing what is best for him. He may get a title shot, but so what if he's not making any real money? The exposure and money on HBO two times in a row would be way better for him, so in my mind it wasn't a good business decision for Cloud. Chad will go on with his career."

Shaw said this, Shaw said that. Come on man, what judge of character puts his faith in Shawss words over a warrior's like Cloud?

Plus, why didnt you provide a source? Probably cause it shows that Shaw claims Tarver II was more interesting than Cloud, which can only be explained by fear

Dan Rafeal accepts that story as true, and as much as I loathe his analysis, he's a good reporter.

    Good call on the link:

Well if y'all think Tarver II was more interesting than Cloud then I dont know what to tell you.

If you cant see the commercialism of the modern internet forums then I also dont know what to tell you. Most of the writers for ESPN, Eastside boxing, the Cable networks bla bla bla are just muppets for money if you ask me and that probably why Vivek Wallace, Ted serras, Geofri Ciani have all banned me from their comments sections

Everyone would have preferred Cloud instead of Tarver II, except HBO. For whatever reason HBO paid out the ass for a fight no one wanted to see. That's not Dawson's fault, though, his people made an easy fight for him with a terrific purse.

Now that Cloud has a nice HBO win, though, big fights should be easier for him to come by. If Ward beats Dirrell, my guess is Dirrell ends up fighting Bute or Cloud at a catchweight. I guess Taylor probably belongs in the conversation, too.

HBO is nuts so I guess that is possible.

Your second quote is either extremely speculative and also a bit silly IMO or you have some sort of inside information.

Also wasn't the Tarver-Dawson II a rematch clause?

I'll be at this fight and I want Pascal to win but I'll be surprised if he does. Not only is Dawson a better fighter but he is also more 100% than Pascal who is coming off shoulder surgery with no tuneup.
