29th September 2004 - Danny Green vs Omar Eduardo Gonzalez 15th October 2004 - Spars James Toney That better for you princess?
yep. toney is a legend. was a legend. a special fighter, and still near prime when he schooled danny. danny did well against toneys pulled shots. .
Hate Green as much as you like - but sometimes you just have to accept facts - he held his own that day with Toney as clearly seen in the clips.
You tell em mate:deal I dont expect everyone to be a nuthugger like myself but the hate for Danny on this board is over the top to say the least. He's last couple of fights have been a let down and he's copped some flak which is fair enough but the hate towards him on this forum is insane! Hopefully he can get a good opponent in his next fight and get some of the haters of his back.
The recent picture isn't pretty by any means, and I'm as critical as the next person about the Briggs & Siacca bouts. But to bag Green over that sparring session when he was an 18 fight super middle against a bloke of Toney's reputation, experience and weight advantage - FFS!
Toney had the shits big time with green one for telling his trainer that he must have been scared not turing up the previous day to spar green then calling him names whilst they sparred. I dont think Toney would have been pulling any punches. As ty said in his second post was only a couple of weeks after Gonzalez so Dan would have been in pretty fair shape ( Ty your first argument of 5 months wasn't the best ) and took some monster bombs. In a real fight I would think a fit toney takes it but green did well for a skinny white guy
your not being serious are you? toney was mucking around pretty much the whole time... not taking it seriously at all... you can do that when you have been hit hard by guys 40+kgs heavier than the guy you are sparing against! thats not saying that green didnt do well... he did do well.... but to say that toney was taking it seriously (prior to the point that he felt disrespected is not fair on either of them...) and embarrassed that he couldnt beat a SM 30kgs + lighter than him when he was on his way to winning a HW title and green was going on to get thoroughly beaten by mundine is a total joke. Green definitely did great. but it would have been a totally different situation if toney had started throwing big punches from the start...............
Toney was pissed off afterwards not before hand. Toney was doing green a favour, what is toney really going to work on by getting in with a SM? Then he hears that green was calling him chicken and he gets disrespected late in their sparring session and after it so he thinks **** this....... again.... Danny did do great given his experience and weight disadvantage.... but to have both of them in the ring and fired up............ thats a different story EDIT So i just watched it again just to be sure. If you think that toney is loading up those punches then you have never seen a heavyweight punch. Simple as that. He is throwing most of them from the shoulder with nothing on them at all. Again though Green definitely did great - very very veyr well all things considered... but anyone saying that toney went in pissed off trying to knock green out but couldnt is full of ****.
Green held his own, that's what I'm saying, and by the yellow section in your post above you're agreeing, and again in your EDIT answer above. Forget what people might have been thinking. Whether people were holding back. Whether anyone wanted to get guns etc. Facts are that it was a sparring session, it's captured on film, and Green held his own. That much is beyond argument.
Hates a big word. I don't think anyone on here hates Green or Mandy personally, more the problem of what they are doing to the sport of boxing in Oz. I don't know either so I'm not a hater. What pisses me off & a lot of so called haters is the way tehy continually **** the general public with all their bull****. The critism for Green, like Mandy, is self warranted by their constant ego inflated bull****, self promoting of being the best, continual fighting of bums & picking up so called world titles along the way. Thats the root of the problem & if you can't see that then your not looking at it in an unbias way. The sparring session, yeah sure he held his own but Toney played with him like someone said ' a bear playing with a fish'. Then the disrespect brough the gun about. Enough said.
Another one who agrees. ...and yes Green & Mundine both have a heap of work ahead of them in winning back the public.
it is funny though that regardless of whether they had finished sparring or not, that this big tough monster who happens to be a professional boxer feels he needs a gun to hurt a skinny little white guy after he disrespected him, lol. wouldn't it have been easier to just walk a couple of metres hit the guy. i suppose even toney watches too many movies too huh.
