My nickname was "SNOOKS",alltime P4Per?

My famous trainer called me "snooks",At my peak , few were as good in
any division, anytime...I held a title..Who was I ?

 

Ezzard Charles.

Charles from middleweight to Lh was almost unbeatable.
P.s. His great trainer Ray Arcel called Ezzard "SNOOKS ".:good

 

..arcel just picked it up..snooks was ezzard's nick name from very early in his career.

 

Sportswriters picked up on his childhood nickname of “Snooky” and started calling him “Snooks,” but with disdain, not affection.

PS - Burt it was a real pleasure meeting you this morning. Believe it or not, the Grave site for Johnny Breitenbruck was approx. 60 miles away from the Funeral Home and I just got back. Boy what a Long day.

I had the honor of giving the Eulogy and ringing the bell 9 times, in celebration of his life. The family was really enjoyed the ceremony.

Thanks again for coming to the funeral home, now I have a face to go along with the name.

 

hh, it was a solemn occasion, but I had to pay my respects to a fighter
who I saw in my youth.

..okay..it's a fine point...but ezz was called snooks as early as his high school years......and yeah, the free loading sports writers of the time did use it in a derogatory manner

 

Good time to recall Ernest Hemmingway's amigo Kid Tunero who rolled into Cincy and delivered an almighty beating on Charles that left the 3 local paps breathless.
40's was a mighty tuff time to be a middleweight!!
