its crazy you know, it dont seem that long ago that taylor was a p4p contender and pavlik was a young hungry warrior. yet now taylor is semi-retired and pavlik is considered by some to be past his best.

no matter what people say about them being hype jobs or one dimensional, they both made for a cracking fight

i expected taylor to brush him aside, especially after the beating he put on him in round 2

Being from Arkansas I am a big JT fan, this was a tuff fight for me, but it was a good one as a boxing fan. JT will be coming back late this year or early next year. He is meeting with Pat Burns to discuss if Pat believes he can get back to the top level, if so he is going to make another run at it with Pat as his trainer. I still contend that the biggest mistake JT made was not staying with Pat, but you live and learn I guess...we soon shall see.

Other than the debacle in the second round the first fight went exactly like I envisioned it. Tremendous all action affair.

I've always been a little surprised by people's reaction to the second fight. It was one of the best exhibitions of skill we've seen from either guy.

As long as these two guys could stay at or near their peak they would always make a great fight.

it was crazy could you could actually see how tired he got in the last 10 seconds of round 2, but he still produced some good moments in the fight, even in round 7 he was jabbing strong enough to keep pavlik away, but in the end he just got caught by a punch and werent able to recover.

is he done at the top level? hard to say. he was beating froch at the time of the stoppage, and i believe he was beating aa at the time of the stoppage, i had it 6-5 taylor. plus he was also beating pavlik at the time of the stoppage. that being said he did get stopped in them 3 fights so it is hard to say.

the 2nd fight really boosted pavlik in my books, i just didnt think he would be able to outbox taylor, but he did.

the first fight was very very good. and it is a shame that pavlik dont get enough credit. he got off the floor vs the mw kind and fought back. that takes some doing in my book. kinda reminiscent to martinez's victory over kp in a way.

The bold statement is not entirely accurate. I really do not know what to expect from Pavlik these days, but back then a jabbing contest with Kelly Pavlik was a foolish endeavor. In 2007 KP and JT had two of the best jabs in boxing, but Pav's was just a little bit better. Repeated jabbing contests, per Steward's instructions, was a big part of what led to the KO.

at the start of round 7 he was doing enough to keep pavlik away and he had pavlik back pedal a couple of times with his jab. he just couldnt keep it up throughout the round.

Poor guy. Will he never get enough of being visciously ko'd. Guess he will be knocked into a coma next time.

I've always believed that Emmanuel Steward severely under estimated KP, and had Taylor "drinking the kool-aid" so to speak. I think Manny's statments like "keep workin' that golden left arm" were part of a poor fight plan.

One of the really under-rated aspects of this fight is the number of hellacious body shots Pavlik landed before the sequence that led to the KO.

Yeah man. He already knows how to box. Whoever trains him again for his comeback need to teach him how to put these guys away quick because he's been getting caught and KO'd late in the fight.

I haven't seen both fights in AWHILE like in two years. I may need to just get those fights because I don't know a place where I can see the second fight. I don't think youtube or dailymotion has it.
