I don't get it. How do you go from fighting John Duddy to fighting Cotto? I heard this fight might be a ppv as well. I know Arum likes in house fights, but this doesn't seem to mkae a whole lot of sense.

i think chavez will surpirse a lot of people by going the distance and proving himself in a close defeat.

I think a lot of people are gonna look dumb come fight time.... Chavez will hold his own and give a respectable performence. Chavez is criminally underrated at this point in time.

Hope im wrong though and its as easy as everyone thinks....

    War Cotto

duddy is a top 10 operator, but in the wrong division. cotto is a very good boxer, but lets remember he has beaten a very average foreman and has suffered 2 kayo losses. it aint that bad a matchup and i cant believe it is being treated as such.

people have been desperated for chavez jr to step up in competition, now they are saying it is undeserved?

just too soon for chavez.. Duddy is a tough guy..all credit due to him as well as chavez... but he had no movement..or head movement.

cotto will not be such an easy target. Chavez is brave for stepping up to the plate.

No he is not. Duddy is a glorified club fighter. Duddy has beaten nobody. Even Duddy admits that he was a dime a dozen fighter in Ireland. He's only a name fighter here becauce he has a good promoter and because he's one of the few Irish fighters in The States. This may or may not end up being a good fight. However, I don't see why Cotto would take this fight at this time. There's no upside to beating Chavez Jr. at this time if you're Cotto.

What a dumb fight for Cotto to take.... he should have said no to this one :-( Will recieve completely no credit no matter what he does here and if he has the slightest trouble he will catch **** for it. Stupid fight.

glorified or not, he still occupied the space in the rankings. there is upside. if he can overcome a 12 round war people will believe he still has it.

i believe the problem is that chavez jr has underachieved by overachieving. if he was 18-0 and had just beaten duddy, noone would have a problem with this fight. but because he has a padded record and his dad was a legend, people ***** and moan.

If Duddy ever was top 10, it was for a very brief moment. He is nowhere near anyone's top 10 at MW or JMW, nor was he when he fought Chavez Jr. Do you really think people will say Cotto still has it if he has to go to war with Chavez Jr.? I'm not so sure about that. If Chavez Jr. could actually beat a top 10 fighter first, this would be a much better fight.

I agree, Kirk. Excluding the payday, Cotto doesn't stand much to gain from this particular fight.

at MW, id say he was at the time, obviously not now.

if he has to go to war and comes out on top, yes i think they will. chavez jr is underrated on this forum.
