I just saw where Angulo turned down a shot at Serg's titles, and it's the straw that breaks the camel's back.

WHY THE **** WON'T CONTENDERS TAKE THEIR TITLE SHOTS ANYMORE???!?

In the last month or so alone, we've had:

    -Haye turn down Wlad
    -Povetkin turn down Wlad
    -Williams turn down Martinez
    -Angulo turn down Martinez

And probably another one or two that have slipped my mind. This isn't even counting the Pac-Floyd shenanigans.

What the hell's wrong with these guys? Back in the old days, great fighters would toil for years for a title shot and take it in a heartbeat- if they were lucky enough to land one! Now, you literally can't pay these guys 6, 7, and in Haye's case, potentially even 8 figure paydays for a championship fight against the Ring champions in their respective divisions.

It's disgusting. I thought the point of prize fighting was to try to win titles and make money...yet these guys still turn it away. What kind of dysfunctional **** is this??

It's a terrible thing. Boxers found out less work brings more pay. With all the champion belts around why fight the best, go for the weaker champions so you can keep a great record. What ever you do will be excused by your fans.

its not about being a champion anymore in this sport, it's what gets you the most money.

    The fights that havnt happened.....

    Mayweather vs Pac
    Wlad vs Haye
    Wlad vs Povetkin
    Martinez vs Williams 2
    Martinez vs Angulo
    Vic vs Donaire 2

and the thing is, you will see defenders of all these fights not happening, its a joke.

In all honesty im pretty fed up with it all.... but what can i do? i cant turn my back on boxing, im not gonna start watching UFC.... so.. meh.

I have to admitt though its kinda taken something out of it for me..... hopefully boxing can get its act together down the stretch of the year here.

The other thing, HBO needs to continue to demand fights and not accept anything less. If fighter a isnt fighting fighter b, c, or d, then we arent showing it. Its that simple..... fighters and these worthless pieces of **** that are killing boxing... promoters... would get their act together real quick.

I swear if i was a billionair i would unify boxing..... :-( and promoters and abc orgs are nothing but leaches and vultures on the sport. 'Promoters'... what a joke.

Boxers have become businessmen. More concerned with gain/risk ratio than fighting. Some have taken it to another level by not fighting at all if there's a big risk even if it pays gazillion dollars.

In the old days fighters were not usually undefeated. Losses mean too much today. Not to mention the damned boxing orgs! I am tired of home town decisions and non-competitve fights, sometimes fights are not competitive and is not fault of orgs or fighters, but fights should and could be against the best out there. A wino fighting an undefeated fighter is not interesting to watch, leave sparring for the gym.

    Blame the Fans.

Don't watch and they won't get paid.

Boycott their fights until they pony-up for a big fight.

I agree. Boxing has become a joke recently.
Thats why you have some many "fantasy" match ups threads on this board. People want and demand big fights. They are just not getting them.
Only shining beacon is super six.

if there was only 1 belt, we wouldn't have this problem. Guys like Angulo wouldn't even find themselves in this sort of position unless they were ready. Also, people wouldn't decilne title shots hoping to pick up another title more easily.

The CORE problem in boxing is the number of sanctioning bodies. Almost everything else stems from there.

Yesterday I'm talking to some guys at work about Pascal vs Dawson, and I'm telling them how Dawson is one of the top5 boxers in the world even taking into consideration every division, and they say "He's the champion right?" and I'm like "well Pascal is the real champion of this organisation, the WBC, but Dawson was stripped of a different organisation's championship because he wanted to face someone who was better than the mandatory challenger and ..................."

And then they just changed the topic

It's too easy to pick a weak beltholder to get yourself the trinket, so fighters don't want to risk losing to the strongest beltholder. Just the way it is.

Here's the real disgusting trend. Fans go around saying guys need to fight the best and blast them when they don't. However, when they do fight the top guys and then lose and/or look bad, they get blasted even more. So what's the upside to them taking on some of these tough fights? Pavlik goes up to fight Hokpins, loses, and then his popularity plummets. Only about 6,000 or showed up to see him fight Martinez. Of course pretty much everyone has turned on him after he lost that fight. Losses, bad performances, have dire consequences to a fighter nowadays.

Angulo does not match up well with Martinez. That's almost assuredly a lopsided loss. Angulo is 28 years old now. A lopsided loss at this point in his career could derail it for some time. Furthermore, why is Angulo expected to move up in weight to challenge for Martinez's MW title? Weren't Taylor and Hopkins blasted for fighting JMWs? Now we're criticising JMWs for not going up to fight MWs?

Spot on. Most of the time I think sports fans get the sport that they deserve.

Anyone complaining about the state boxing is in should recognise that it became that way with the acquiesence and sometimes encouragement of the fans.
