Week after week year after year all they talked about all they promoted was how great these guys are. They let them fight nobodies to inflate the bubble and when they fought anybody good they got exposed.
Hundreds of Millions of dollars behind them and all of them combined won't go down near the hard working Phillipino that never quit and fought for his fans all along.

    Roy Jones - no comment
    Floyd - Vacation
Jermaine Taylor - Seems like a great guy but way over hyped
Alexander - Still has a chance - I root for him

Floyd should be banned from boxing. never has boxing needed more of a lift and with the chance for a Fight of the Century he is on vacation? Like they say on ESB Void is Void and ain't that the truth.

The thing is HBO is so stupid they dont realise they contribute to a failing system. They try too hard to build someone instead of letting the sport build itself. They have no sense when it comes to promotion of a sport.... its a very basic, abc game they are playing and its just moronic.

There is nothing wrong with a little star building, here and there.... but HBO takes it to ******ed measures.

If i could just be in charge of HBO Boxing for 2 years..... please God... please. lol

Home Buttocks Office needs Alfred E. Newman to help them out.

I think he was talking about Jones fighting postman, janitors, garbage men, etc., and HBO paying him $5,000,000 per fight for such. Jones was good, but he did not take chances had it easy during that time.

They need to make fighters earn it. It should be a merit based system. The favoritism and push they have for certain fighters and promoters is ruining the sport and more importantly, ruining their own business. They overpay guys like Berto and the bias on their shows is clear for everyone to see (the way Pirog and Kotelnik were treated). If they made fighters earn their spot it would be better for the sport and the quality of matchups would go up, which will only be better for business.

HBO should be showing only top fights. I think Vlad/Peter might be exciting, but Home Buttocks Office will not show that, instead they will show a wino from an alley fight an undefeated fighter.

One of the negative effects of the HBO and Showtime hype - and some fighters deserve it while others can work their way up to the network status - is that when a complete fighter comes and kicks ass, like Calzaghe vs. Lacy or Martinez vs. Pavlik or Pirog vs. Jacobs, the average viewer gets absolutely confused. That usually leads to discredit the hyped fighter while not giving the great visitor half the credit they gave to the network dude previously. They just cannot understand how can such talents appear "out of nowhere", because they were told over and over and over again that the very best fight on these networks. "It is impossible that Calzone or whoda**** is THAT good, Lacy must be a hype job!" - remember?

Wait a Minute....WAIT A GOD-DAMN MINUTE...I noticed that all of the fighters on your list are Black American. The fact that you didn't mentioed any fighters from other cultures/race tells me that you are a RACIST!!!!

Oh wait a minute. Did I just post a reply to the Thread Starter and totally missed the point of his whole thread, just to "rant" about my uneducated perceptions and ignorant assumptions about the Thread Starter??? And did I claim he was a RACIST because he mentioned fighters from a particular culture but by no means did he ever say any thing derogatory nor malicious about any other culture and/or race???? Wow...I cannot believe I am turning into the AVERAGE ESB FORUM POSTER!!!

Sorry to "Grandstand on my pulpit" in your thread dude...but it was a statement that needed to be made about these IDIOTS and to prove a point about their HYPOCRISY!!!!

But anyway..to respond properly: I don't see any real problems or issues with HBO or Showtime Hyping certain fighters. Because the reality...is that "we" as Boxing Fans should see through the Hype. I think we all saw that Chris Arreola was a complete BUM...as well as plenty of other fighters. I think that some of us love to label fighters as "Overrated or Hypejobs" after poor or shitty performances. But sometimes its just a young fighter going through a "Learning Curve". Sugar Ray could have been called a Hypejob after loosing to Duran...But like all (most) young fighters (especially the ones with desire and dedication)...They get better. Alexander now knows that being fast and throwing alot of punches means nothing without defense, movement, counter-puning and bodywork.

We'll see if he gets better...now if he has another shitty performance...then he indeed will deserve the label: HYPEJOB!!!!
