3 yrs ago Floyd weight in 150 lbs for WBC Title

The fight is a joke.

 

It's because there is a double standard with Floyd and Pac. Floyd has in a way though, brought that double standard upon himself. He's has played the cocky, *******, guy-you-love-to-hate role his entire pro career in order to promote fights. That persona though is one of the greatest ways to promote sports, because people aren't happy unless they have someone to hate on, especially in sport. If they're hating on you, they know who you are, and that means money. For that reason he is the biggest draw and richest boxer (not to mention the third richest American athlete despite being in a sport that is not even among the top 10 most popular sports in the US). But for that same reason people are going to have a double standard for him, because they love to hate on him. Pac on the other hand plays the media well by playing the role of a very likeable and humble person. Besides that, Pac has a very fan-friendly fighting style where Floyd's fighting style, while seen as beautiful by true boxing fans, is seen as boring by the casual sports fans and general public. This is why people will discredit every accomplishment Floyd has in this sport and focus on any stupid actions or decisions he has made, while praising everything Pac has done and ignoring any shady **** he's pulled (such as demanding catch weights and refusing to take drug tests). I'm a fan of both as fighters and want nothing more than to see them fight. The fact is that no one outside of those involved know what happened with negotiations yet as soon as the fight fell through everyone was quick to blame Floyd and call him a "coward" and "ducker," despite having no knowledge of who is actually to blame. I personally feel no need to assign blame to (or hate on) either, because I know the fight is going to eventually happen. I know it's going to happen because there is too much money there and what Floyd and Pac value more than anything is money (Floyd does call himself "Money" after all).

Let's enjoy (re)watching this great fight between 2 legends: Pernell Whitaker and Julio Caesar Chavez. Then let's ***** at both of them for fighting this welterweight title fight at 145 pounds. Let's see if this catchweight hatred is for all boxers or just reserved for Manny Pacquiao. Let's just see.

Why would people want to ***** at the bigger man fighting in a catchweight? It doesn't benefit him.

 

There's risks involved for both fighters. We've seen bigger men get weakened and we've seen the smaller man get brutalized. For the most part, catchweights have been competitive with no problems for either fighter.

I get your point now. I just see catchweights as a fighter moving up in weight like every other successful fighter, especially when it's only onto the next weight division.
