In SF he has fought an undefeated ko puncher and black belt bjj master. He owes it to them. Before that he was facing oversized freakshows and undersized contenders. In all seriousness, SF have a healthy heavyweight division. Silva, Serge, Overeem, Werdum, Rogers, even prospects like Lashley could all be really good match ups for him.

 

ok, I agree that he is better off staying with SF. but to say that he was just facing freakshows is stupid when he faced arlovski and before that tim sylvia, and was to face josh barnett until barnett got caught with steroids.

Who happens to weight in at very close to Randy, he also had a very good record and a far better wrestling background than any other current UFC fighter....I definately wont call him a freakshow or even an easy win, much less a give me fight.

I didn't call him a freakshow. I called him an undersized fighter. He is 185 pounder. Randy weighs in at about 205 and must fight at about 220. Am I to believe that Lindland puts on 35 pounds after the weigh in? I doubt it!

When you are the best fighter in the world you are expected to face the best contenders.

 

I was hoping you were joking though you didnt make it clear in your post. choi is a freakshow guy with good kickboxing skills not too good though. lindland weighed 212 for the fight and fedor only fought lindland after coulture turned down $3 mill from bodog and backed out of the fight (this was in 2007 and before couture's fight with tim sylvia while randy was still in retirement).

it is true that some of fedors fights since he has left pride were no-hoper matchups but the same can be said for any dominate champion, it was difficult for fedor to find "worthy" challengers.

 

A champion should be fighting the very best fighter available so every fight where he is deemed the best, he is actually proving he is the best. I know many other fighters do it but under no circumstances is it justifiable. Brock came back to fight the number 1 contender, Alves came back into an eliminator. These are the sort match ups I like.

 

but when you place his matchups in historical context you see that fedor is trying to compete against the best at the time. He tried to fight couture instead he had the fight with lindland he tried to fight josh barnett and it was cancelled. you cant keep placing the blame on fedor, when he takes the best fights available to him. also remember that it is he who was the dominant force reigning over the heavywieghts for 7 years after defeating nogueira in 2003.

I think its fair to expect his opponents to come to him instead of him chasing after other fighters like many want him to do.
