I was there in AC that night! Best fight I ever witnessed!!! Almost died in the 2nd round when Kelly went down. But he showed alot of heart & quit the clowning around after that one.

I've watched this fight at least 10 times, and I've watched portions of it many more times. I've watched the knockdown sequence in slow motion many times. When JT threw the first series of punches he landed very little, and nothing really flush. Pav was slipping, rolling, and catching punches on his gloves very effectively. It looked as though KP thought JT was done punching. He dropped his guard and stuck his chin out as if to say, "**** you. You can't even hit me." And all hell broke loose. Jermain caught Kelly behind the left ear with a hellacious right hand that hurt KP. JT proceeded to throw another 15 punches, two elbows, and a pretty blatant head butt. Eight punches, one elbow, and the head butt all landed flush on the money, and Kelly went down. Pav came back out in the 3rd round, and put a beating on Jermain. I love Manny Steward's comments in the post fight presser. "He came out like nothin' ever happened. (Shakes his head) Like nothin' ever happened. I said, well, we got a problem."
Good news guys both fights are up on youtube and have been added recently. I'm gonna rewatch them later today them and Bute-Andrade 1. Lovely day I'm going to have this afternoon.
I really hope Taylor stays retired. He was once the recognized middleweight champ fo the world, has good money, a meaningful life after boxing with his family. He will never, ever the best again in any weightclass. Taylor is a strange case of some wordlclass attributes like hand speed, heart and athleticism and being very lacking in ring intelligence, stamina and punch resistance. He will never beat a big puncher and he will never have a great round 10 - 12, there are just too many fighters out there who will beat him on those deficiencies alone.
see the thing is, as well as he performed vs froch, pavlik and AA, all enede one way, with the ref waving it off. you would struggle to find a champ from 160-175 that taylor would be favoured against IMO
If JT had stayed with Burns, I think his reign at middleweight would have been considerably better. The good news is that if he comes back, it will be with Burns in his corner.
Was at this fight back in 2007. Man what a fight. Taylor had Pavlik about to go in the second. I remember being stunned when taylor was knocked out. It was so sudden. Funny thing is i just happened to youtube this last friday while bored. such a good fight
i had expected taylor to win win this fight, bet my dad a tenner, damn taylor! i mean looking back at his resume, you know he beat hopkins twice and then went on a run against top class LMW's so although taylor was currently in the p4p lists, looking back he was kinda unprepared going in against a big, hard hitting MW
Both of those guys were riding on the P4P lists until they faced Hopkins. Hopkins is the guy who exposed both of their limitations and took away their confidence. They were never the same after facing him. I wonder how much better their careers would've been had they not faced this legend.
