I couldn't see why you bothered quoting me to agree that there wasn't 8 even rounds in that fight so I did the same to you.
This is something I feel very strongly about. I score a lot of even rounds. One of the reasons you get controversy and ridiculous scorecards is because people try too hard to seperate fighters when really it's completely even . For example, round 1 Froch/Dirrell nothing happened from either fighter. Dirrell fans will try to make up some **** about how he landed 1 more punch and Froch fans will do the same and talk some bull**** about how because he's the champ he deserves the close rounds. That's bull****, I hate that. Round 2 was a 10/10 round too. There has to be a CLEAR winner otherwise just move on to the next round instead of manufacturing a reason why one fighter should get the round.
Agree with your point about trying to seperate causes so-called robberies but, that said, two 10-10 rounds? I'm not to keen on that. That's when you probably have to start choosing.
If it's Duran-Leonard I you're talking about, I think that should be the next “controversial” fight we rescore after Marquez-Pac II. It’s a great fight, easily the best bout between the Fab Four (yep, better action that Hagler-Hearns) and scoring it is an absolute nightmare after the early rounds… I haven’t watched it in ages either… 10-9 Martinez. Even if Martinez hadn't got the KD at the end, he was winning the round clearly so it would have only been a 10-9 to Williams.
I was just trying to wind Flea up. Duran won the fight, a lot of competitive rounds but most were clearly Durans.
Judges are appointed on thier abilty to distinguish which fighter is more effective in the disciplines as previosuly mentioned. If a food critic cant taste which coq o vin (cue immature jokes) are good and which arent he should **** off out of the restaurant. If a judge cant choose what fighter wins a round given the ways a fighter can win it he should expect his p45 in the post asap. Trouble is the 10 point system allows for the indecisive to call rounds a draw which could change a fighters fortune
Actually not just two, but most of the rounds I scored were 10/10 rounds I think. I gave Dirrell 3/4 rounds I think, and Froch maybe a couple, the rest were 10/10 IMO. It's part of the system IMO and I don't see why it should be a problem, and why people should choose just for the sake of choosing. If you have 12 rounds, there's bound to be a round where a fighter clearly wins. If it's say a 4 rounder and you get 4 10/10 rounds, then accept it for what it is, a draw.
You can't make something into what it isn't. If there's no clear winner then you have to score it 10/10 otherwise the sport becomes TOO subjective. Hwo do you seperate them? Fighter a landed 5 punches and fighter B landed 6? or give it to the hometown fighter? the champ? the guy who has the better looking shorts? The 10/10 doesn't affect a fighters fortune anymore than 10/9 rounds. If you make the judge choose a close, close round, then what's to say he won't give it to the fighter he's biased towards? He could say "well it was so close and I had to give it to someone so...."
I think you even get some people who will give the next even round to the other guy to "balance it out".
Yea but we're fans and although the most arrogant on here would disagree we arent professional judges and dont nhave the exact quota that they do. We know what to look for, what scores and what doesnt, quality and quantity of shots, defense ability, ring generalship etc and its fun to score fights but its these people are chosen to get it spot on and see the things others may miss. If a round was so damn close it was IMPOSSIBLE to separate tell me- how many times you see 3 judges give the same round 10-10?
Close dont make it even, nuff said on that. And yes if all the disciplines other than number of punches landed yes the person who got 6 wins the round. Duh. Im not saying make it up and give it 1 way im saying there is simply too many ways to win/lose a round it shouldnt be needed certainly not in the numbers you're talking about
Seeing as its topical on here I checked the Williams-Martinez cards and across the 3 judges (36 rounds scored) there was one 10-10 given and that was in a pretty tight fight to score.
