Many have criticised HBO for the lack of big fights and have stated that they need to start forcing these guy's hands. Well it looks like that may be happening. There are 3 fights that HBO has pushed hard for; Bradley/Alexander, Williams/Martinez II, and Mayweather/Pacquiao.

Bradley/Alexander is coming along nicely and should be finalized within the next week or two. According to a source close to the situation, Williams/Martinez II is pretty much a done deal and just needs to be signed. Mayweather/Pacquiao is still not a reality. However, those two are huge PPV stars which make it almost impossible for them to be dictated to. Hopefully HBO keeps this up and starts pressuring more of their guys to fight top guys if they want to be on HBO.

Damned. What if promoters actually were forced to do their jobs and not just wait for TV money handouts.

Will be really suprised if Bradley v Alexander happens. Can see both sides thinking they are worth more than 50% of what HBO wants to pay.

Martinez/Williams is a great fight. I like both guys, so I'm not too fussed who they fight as long as they are elite. The first was fantastic and a rematch should be as good.

I'm not as eager to see Mayweather though. Pacquiao? Sure but I don't want to see Mayweather. I'm completely off him right now. If that fight doesn't happen, I don't mind.

Bradley/Alexander isn't interesting, I don't think. Alexander lost too much steam against Kotelnik bit at least it clears the division up.

If HBO could afford SSM-Margarito, they can afford this. No football on weekend, week before Super Bowl, big money.

That's what they should be doing. They sit and wait for HBO or SHO to give them dates, apporove fights, and promote them. Like or Hate Arum, he's the only guys actualy promoting these days like a promoter.

One-hundred-thousand screaming boxing fans attended the Danny Lopez/David Kotei fight in 1976.

Now days a fighter who can draw 1/10 of that is considered a a big draw.

A lot of the difference does lie in the fact that most promoters these days do not do **** to promote a fighter.

HBO can make things better, but they need to fire about two-thirds of the broadcast team.

Nowadays, boxing competes with so many things when it comes to get the casual viewer's money.

HBO should only offer the meaningful fights on their network and no more than one or two big PPV cards every year.

Fighters should gradually be brought up on regular tv stations such as ABC, NBC or CBS before making it on the HBO or SHOWTIME stage. Fans would get to know them and they would again develop some sort of following like in the past before being shown on HBO.

Every weekend boxing needs to be on free regular tv just like weekly baseball or football games..

Just wait for Cinco De Mayweather 2011. It's a virtual certainty assuming Pacquiao does what I expect him to do and roll Rockgloves out like a carpet.

Problem is that the sticking point is that Williams wants to have the fight in his home town with his three judges are personal referee. I think Martinez should have the fight in neutral territory with neutral judges and referee, not one that take orders from HBO and Goosens. Actuall, Martinez is the champion, beat Williams already, he should have the fight in his home town!

Technically Williams beat Martinez. I'd like it to be in neutral territory with neutral judges and ref but I'm not sure they can sell out an arena. I'd like to think the could do good business at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas but I'm just not sure they can draw enough for it. Perhaps a co-headline with another good match-up would be better.
