    Why wouldn't it work?

He has over 50 lbs in size over Marciano. He would honestly look like a midget next to Wlad, people really need to put this stuff in perspective. Marciano is in my top 5 all time but h2h most older HW's are facing a daunting task against the Klitschkos, Lewis, Bowe, etc.

So Langford and Marciano at 180 and 185lb are too small, yet Dempsey at 185lb has a chance? How does that logic work.

in order to gurantee a win wladimar needs the right space, time, every physical advantage and to be able to control the pace of a fight. without one of those crucial elements and he panics and looses all his strength with anxiaty. he is a nervous guy who cant cope without all the odds in his favour.

all the times he struggled he had size advantage.

Jess Willard was no Klit or Bowe or Lewis or even Golota. He was a lot closer to a Corrie Sanders minus the handspeed and amateur training... i.e. a part time boxer with significant size advantage over many of his opponents.

Also, let's put Dempsey's effort in perspective. The first guy down in that fight was the lose, plain and simple. Dempsey was allowed to hit him while down, while getting up, while in the ropes... that simply would not happen today without disqualification.

Where is the modern version of this 180lb giant slayer? And please don't offend my intelligence by contending Marciano can pack 215 pounds onto that stumpy, narrow-shouldered frame. Marciano was a great, and I mean the greatest, head to head fighter at about 200 and under. But in my mind he loses his advantages quickly above that size.

Wow..That is quite the compliment. So you pick him over anyone in history below 200lb?

Marciano is tricky on the inside. he just wouldn't allow Himself to be tied up. I do think wladimir is stronger, but marciano is quote strong himself, for his size. even if Marciano is tied up he would still be able to work an get some body shots in.

I got Marciano by TKO in 8 rounds If they actually fought. wladimir would just not be able to deal with the body attack and the pressure that Marciano brings to the table. and since Walcott and charles weren't able to escape Marciano (who were way faster and slicker then wlad) then why would wlad defeat rocky? I don't see it.

Tyson would KO Wlad in 5 rounds. wlad just can't take any of Tyson's punches. people need to realize that wlad has some really weird losses in his prime- losing to fighters like purrity, sanders, and brewster doesn't impress me. and it shows that he has a bad chin, and he can gas out.

Perhaps some people are being overawed by the perspective here.

Jack Dempsey looked like a midget next to Jess Willard etc, etc, etc.

Boxing is one sport where visual perspective means less than nothing.

Most would have problems with them, yes...especially Bowe, imagine a 6'5 monster throwing combos like a MW and infighting like that:scaredas:

Wladamir is being sold short on his rather good resume at present.

Some people might be selling him a bit long head to head however.

The guys who knocked him out before his prime run might have been big, but they were also mediocre.

    Quality trumps size.

Quality doesn't trump size AND quality, though.

The difference between Wlad and, say, Willard is so large it's not even worth talking about. Although on second thought, maybe it IS worth talking about. How did a guy like Jess Willard become the Heavyweight Champion of the world? His quick feet and sharp reflexes? Nope, he became champion with little else than size and durability. It wasn't nearly enough to overcome a guy like Dempsey, but Dempsey is so far ahead of him as a fighter it shouldn't of been a fight. The fact a guy like Jess Willard became HW champion of the world while beating guys who outgunned him in every technical aspect says a lot about how important size is.

And I never said Wlad would beat Marciano. I just thought the idea that Wlad wouldn't be able to tie up a guy who weighs 185 pounds laughable, as does anyone with any common sense or lack of bias. The guy ties up and mandhandles 240-250 pound behemoths in there, and is himself a massive 6'6 240 lbs without an ounce of fat on him.

Marciano is severely outgunned in pretty much every physical aspect there is outside of durability.

Bowe is a killer of smaller heavyweights, imo. He fights them at their own game.

The only small heavyweights I'd pick to have a serious chance of beating Bowe at his best are those with absolute top shelf power. As in Louis, Tyson, and maybe one or two others.

I agree as strong as marciano was, I can see Wlad manhandling Rocky in the clinches due to sheer Size, plus the fact Wlad himself is physically ripped to shreds. Wlad is a near great fighter. A few more top notch wins and he is there. Wlad is the real deal. Very Technical, A class skills, Deadly two fisted power, ATG jab, and he keeps himself in fantastic shape. He also has a lot more heart than people think.

Maybe height and reach. Dempsey: 6'1+, 77 inch reach.

Langford is listed at 72½ reach on B.R.

Dempsey also looked like a starved fighter...which he was for a time being. Tough life.
If there was one HW from the past that I would say easily could carry the extra weight it would be him. 200-205 pounds for sure.

Style wise, Dempsey has a better chance. At his peak, he was fast on his feet in the sprint.
