This is probably my all time favorite fight. Bowe was at his peak and Holyfield was too. I think this fight showed Holyfield was a threat to any fighter EVER. What do you guys think?
Definately my favourite heavyweight title fight of my lifetime so far - and probably in my top 5 heavyweight fights ever - maybe even top 3 - a legendary fight - Bowe was a great fighter in this fight - such a shame that he couldn't hold it together and keep down to 235 - a star that burned bright if for only one night - felt good for him that night :happy
Definitely one of my favorite heavyweight matchups. Watching Holyfield take so much punishment only to come back round after round is nothing short of astounding. With every succeeding round, I just shake my head in disbelief. It's one of those fights where the loser was great.
Definitely the best heavyweight bout of the 90's. I'd rate Holyfield between 7 - 9 in my all time heavyweight list. Quality fighter.
Watched it again today and scored for the first time. My result was closer that the official scoring judges and Lederman suggested: Holyfield - Bowe I 1. 10-9 2. 10-9 3. 9-10 4. 9-10 5. 10-9 6. 10-9 7. 9-10 8. 10-9 9. 10-9 10. 9-10 11. 8-10 12. 9-10 113-114 Bowe
It's his best win. I watched it in amazement and I thought Holyfield proved his greatness right there.
man i watched that fight and i couldn't believe how easy holy landed his punches from outside in the opening rounds.i think his love for brawling cost him that fight.bowe was a great infighter, lewis and especially wlad can't even compare with bowe when it comes to infighting, but they were also much better than bowe from the outside
I love this fight, but as a big Holyfield fan Holyfield-Bowe II is my all time favorite Holyfield fight!! I have like 5 or 6 VHS tapes full of stuff on this fight which I taped all myself.. I taped all the espn pieces the weeks up to and after the fight (which I always did with any big fight back then), I have Bowe and Holyfield on Arsenio on BET, ESPN, CNN, USA any and everything you name it I have it, and of course the entire PPV Broadcast and HBO replay of the fight with coverage. Boxing got so much coverage back then I miss that.... At least I have all my old tapes...
The one thing I recall most from thsi fight was my uncle Tony knocking on our door about 4.00am to watch with me and my brother. All through the fight he said (about Bowe): "This big **** looks like a bit like John Tate, only he doesn't fight like a girl".
From memory I think I had it to Bowe by 115-113 (i think) and I remember I scored the 10th round as even (is that controversial or what??!!)
It's true, Bowe and Tate looked very similar. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
