    Nice write up Janitor. I love reading ol fight write ups of Terry, maybe Ive missed the threads but he hardly gets a mention on these boards for some reason. How bad of a fix was his bout with Gans?

    Ther is a fair amount of circumstantial evidence to suggest that the Gans fight was fixed, which is why I did not list it among McGoverns laurels. If on the other hand it was on the level then it might just be the greatest win of all time. McGovern did beat two lightweight champions so he was clearly a force at that weight.

    "Outboxing" someone for that same reason is always assumed to be on the outside and going backwards. But James Toney outboxes people standing against them.

    Because generally people tend to think 'aggresion' makes a 'brawler' and therefore 'unskilled', but applying pressure is equally as hard as being defensivly sound IMO.

    Do you think he revolutionized offensive boxing?

    Sam Langford undoubtedly influenced later fighters such as Jack Dempsey.

    I dont think that he revolutionised offensive boxing, as took the best of what had gone before, and combined it into something more refined than anybody had seen before .......or since!

    It probably didnt help that he continued figfhting at world level after he was clinicaly blind.

    History shows that fighters who can see generaly enjoy an advantage.
