Teaching the nincompoop people about boxing is like turning up to an earthquake with a dustpan and brush You can never really achieve very much because the majority of people only know Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan and the famous fighters of the 90s like Benn and Eubank and Bruno.
Another one I had was when I tried to argue that Marciano would not be a heavy today but more like a light heavy or cruiser... they were saying things like Lennox Lewis would of been poleaxed by him today, despite the fact he retired ages ago.
I don't let on to people I follow boxing, it is more hassle than it's worth In the run up to the Haye - Valuev fight loads of people in work were chatting about it saying Valuev is going to destroy him etc etc, it was hard work to ignore them and not try and explain the reality to them
I get that too, is boxing the only sport where the fans are aware of others ignorance? I mean, football, rugby etc don't seem to have the same people being quite.
Same. Only a few of my best mates know. But I'm lucky with them, they seem to be some of the few people who know to shut up when they know **** all about something.
Not really Many people said that Jonny Wilkinson was the best player in the world when England won the World Cup In reality, Wilkinson probably wasn't even one of the best 5 players in the England team He was made to look good behind an incredibly impressive pack of forwards who constantly provided him with a fantastic platform to work from Wilkinson had an armchair ride A ****** could have looked good playing outside such a dominant set of forwards Most sports are the same
Yeah, that's why Wilkinson is the leading points scorer in international rugby union, because the rest of the England team is so strong
I once had a guy say to me that Calzaghe would KO hopkins in one cos calzaghe's power was like Tysons. Also someone told me danny williams was the worlds hardest man cos he beat tyson. I blame tyson for a lot of casual fan ignorance.
The obvious one is Hatton Mayweather. Surely everybody knows people who thought Hatton would stop him?
Surely this thread shows how bad the state of Boxing is more than anythng when the bloke on the street doesnt know much about the biggest names in the sport.
the problem is instead of just giving an opinion based of there limited knowledge they stretch what they know to the brink then make **** up and come off looking like stupid idiots
