I see the 1918/1919 being too much all round for even the Bowe of the first Holyfield bout - I see Dempsey employing a great deal of movement on his toes - when Dempsey needed to stay out of harms way he definately could = the type of movement and bobbing and weaving he used I think would confuse Bowe and his handspeed would catch Bowe by surprise - Holyfield had the speed on Bowe but if he had had the deadly power to go with it he would've been hurting Bowe early - Dempsey had the power that Holy could've done with - he would eventually have Bowe feeling sorry for himself and probably a lot sooner than most people would think and as soon as that started to happen Dempsey would be going for the kill - Bowe no doubt could take his lumps so he may have to be pulled out by his corner or the ref but Dempsey stops the 235 Bowe
Y'all know i love Dempsey but I feel this is a bad matchup for him. Bowe has size, skills, KO power, a great jab, and can infight with the best of them. pretty damn good chin too.
Give Dempsey a solid nutritionist and strength coach for a year or two and he'd be the the most fearsome boxer to ever step into the ring. As it was, I don't know who would win. It would be fought on the inside, and while Dempsey is the better puncher than Holyfield, he doesn't have the durability. I'd pick Bowe.
How would Dempsey handle Bowe's uppercut? Dempsey was certainly as elusive and dynnamic as they come but Bowe would have an answer for everything Dempsey would offer. If Dempsey slips Riddicks jab, he'd get a left hook and a right hand for his trouble...and yes, Riddick's hands were that fast and yes, he threw combinations like a MW. Even if Dempsey got inside, Riddick would still have the advantage...throwing uppercuts, followed by 2-3 punch combos.
Bowe of 1991 to 1993 was just too big and skilled to give in to the 190 pound Jack Demps of the very early 1920s....... Bowe pops from long range and does well on the inside, as well........ BOWE! MR.BILL:deal
if herbie hide had dempseys chin and his 1918-21 seasoning hed have beat bowe. hide had bowe in trouble but didnt have the experience or resistance to capitalise on it and just kept colapsing when ever bowe responded. dempsey would have had a picnic.
