DAWSON VS PASCAL To Be Continued..........

dawson showed he cant put perssure on pascal staye3d just out of range and he found it easy to come in flurry and grab or flurry and get out

no way the ref stops it , he knows pascal is tough as they come and infront of his home crowd it aint happening unless hes clearly gone and theres no doubt if pascal made it to the end he won the fight

 

I'd still have Dawson as favourite in the rematch. When he threw more than 2 punches in a row he started landing good clean shots that hurt Pascal. He hardly ever did it though, as he was too focused on defence. He needs to stand his ground better as well. A problem for him is the speed and power of Pascal, but I feel that if Dawson can assert himself he would come through with a decision. There would be still be some worrying spots though as Pascal has a strange rhythm that allows him to catch his opponent off guard with straight shots.

EDIT: I also think Dawson's chin isn't brilliant

 

dawson was never going to stop Pascal but after re-watching the fight, i wouldnt be shocked if dawson won a rematch.

 

Just watching the show now. Dawson entering ring and the HBO commentary team talk of his mother and father not being there and his father normally is in corner. Chad split from his manager as well. Strange developments...moving away from his hometown to get away from the people that ''want a piece of him'' he said.

Pascal's ring entrance!!!!! That song is driving me insane...used it against Diaconu as well.

Yeh yeh. As Pascal made his entrance I was at breaking point to see the fight.

I think Dawson can win a rematch undoubtedly but he needs a bit more fire in the belly. Pascal knows he can make big bucks with a rematch but is taking a fight with Bute beforehand too much of a risk? It might scupper a rematch with Chad.

Potentially we might have a great lhw trilogy in Pascal v Dawson.

 

No I had it the same but last night I saw it as a fantastic performance from Pascal, watching it again today I see it also had allot of do with Dawson having not showing up. Dawson just didn't do anything. How you got your score is beyond me, i see 4 rounds for Dawson max at a push.

I think the loss is partly down to Dawson and his teams arrogance, not having a challenger mentality and underestimating and failing to study and prepare for Pascal. He really didn't seem to have a clue what sort of fighter Pascal was or how to beat him. Dawson is supposed to be a master boxer but he couldn't beat the man Carl Froch out boxed FFS.

It could also just be down to the fact a fighter that could match Dawson for speed, with a decent punch would always beat him. We shall see if a rematch happens.

No, I remember having it 4-2 to Pascal when Merchant said he had it level, then I gave Dawson the last two rounds, meaning I gave him one of the rounds between 7-9.

 

Just watched the fight...the following thoughts

106-103 Pascal.

Dawson did not pull the trigger soon enough. He moaned and whinged and felt he was doing enough to win rounds, Pascal would nick the rounds with a late onslaught. When he did open up he had Pascal in trouble. Dawson's first thought is make them miss then see if i can counter or hit them and move off.

Dawson did not use the clearest and most obvious counter to Pascal's raids the ''Check Hook''. It was there sitting for him to use. He used it in the middle rounds and sent Pascal flying across the ring and then sat off.

Larry Merchant summed Dawson up perfectly when he said something along the lines of ''Dawson tries harder not to be hit then hitting his opponent''. He has a lot of flaws for a fighter that has so many skills. The lad is clearly talented but doesn't have killer instinct to go take the fight to someone.

Pascal fought a brilliant tactical fight which ended up allowing him to hurt Dawson numerous times. I loved the raiding tactics and the lateral movement ,It was clear he was educated to attack Dawson when Dawson was showing only the shoulder. He threw a half-hook to knock Dawson's glove to then create space for the right. Pascal showed he's more then a warrior with speed and a chin. His recovery is brilliant that counter uppercut in round 10 he was gone for a second literally out and then clicked right back into gear.

I didn't like Dawson'a complaining, From his shoulder to the Shorts being to heavy. The lad needs to fix up. The cut was blatantly accidental.

As for HBO commentary. From the start of the show i could tell that it was three men disillusioned with Boxing. Various comments through out the fight led me to believe these guys are along the same lines of thinking as us. Merchant and Steward throughout the fight voiced displeasure at Dawson's safety first style and Lampley also made digs at belts. Steward claiming Boxing needs it's stars to knock guys out.

Fantastic fight. Rematch..Would be a fun fight...but so Would Cloud-Pascal.

 

Good points, Mandanda, but for me Dawson has a much wider flaw: he's just not very bright. He's got athletic gifts, when he punches in combination he looks devastating, and he's excellent on his feet.

But he can't put it together and, in fact despite his reflexes and anticipation, his defensive skills are very weak. He's constantly out of position when he's defending.

Pascal had something to do with that, stepping to the left then back if Dawson used the jab and following it with a 1-2 or a hook, but some of it's because Dawson is still very green, despite being 28.

Here's the difference for me: Pascal is less talented physically. He's smaller, he's got shorter arms and his base skills are sometimes lacking when he leaves himself wide-open as he punches. But he uses everything he's got and he gets benefits out of it.

he can punch hard, so he's aggressive. He's fast, so he fires combinations. He moves well, so he uses that to get him in and out of range. He's got a good chin, so he takes risks. Basically, he's confident that he can do what he needs to with what's available.

Dawson acts like an entitled baby who has everything a fighter could want, but doesn't feel like he should have to use it.

 

I agree with alot of you points mate. The reason enjoyed a lot of success against Dawson when raiding is because Dawson leans to his left when under attack and ducks low thus now not being in any position to counter, Pascal smartly landed with the right allowed him to duck down then stepped round him and knocked him up with a uppercut and then landed off on him while Dawson was off balance, Smart stuff from Jean.

I agree Dawson isn't bright. He has all the gifts but like them lads you get in the gym at a young age...sometimes they just don't want it enough. He sulked in there last night, Larry Merchants interview was like an Old man talking to a bully who got his arse whooped and made excuses like my trainers were slippery on the concrete. Merchant frowned and gave him that look and then let him know in no uncertain terms ''your making excuses''.

I read a few people last night blaming Eddie Mustafa Muhammed. He clearly has to take some blame but it reminded me of Manny Steward and Jermain Taylor. The trainer wanted it more then the fighter. He maybe could of gave a bit more technical advice but i think he knew Dawson doesn't want it enough. He used full guard like a baby instead of trading off like a warrior would. Pascal deserved everything he got last night.

 

Muhammed's advice was sound beginning till end. Use the jab, throw to the body - he can't stand with you. And he was right. Every time Chad let off two or three punches to the mid-section, Pascal got away. But Dawson would only try it against the ropes.

Dwyer's breakdown of the post-fight is really good on You Tube. Some stuff about making Chad come forwards (the hilarity of Chad accusing someone of running was an irony not lost on me) and not respecting the left hand of Dawson is really insightful.

That's always an issue for converted hand fighters though, since that shot's never the discouragement it should be (Cotto's a prime example of that - hopefully Steward's working on that with him). But Dawson looked amateurish at times. I don't believe he's an elite fighter based on his last five performances. Just a very talented one with great skills but without the mentality to use them.
