HBO needs to stop with the Compubox numbers.

Compubox is nothing more then Amateur judges with punch counters. It's **** and I couldn't give a crap who they think is landing what

I find it funny how lates Jim Lampley is getting increasingly more and more fustrated with the numbers. It seems like almost every fight these days he's saying stuff like "and I gather this is going to be a night when compubox numbers don't tell the whole story." Thank you for your insight Jim. These guys must have a new manager or something cause these days they are ****.

 

Compubox is definitely not a perfect system and it's far from error free. It gives one viewpoint but should never be a basis to judge a fight.

 

When HBO calls Dawson/Tarver fights exciting, I have to wonder about them.

 

Well is just guys clicking a button when they miss or land in their opinion so people can easily rig it. Not to mention some click even on foul shots.

 

When that viewpoint is completely inacurate itself then there really is no point to those so-called stats is there? So why have it there in the first place?

 

Compubox is interesting sometimes, but it is extremely flawed. It's just a couple guys pushing buttons.

It calls any punch that's not a jab a "power shot." Now that is completely ridiculous. What would you rather get hit with, a Segio Mora "power shot" or Kelly Pavlik using his jab for a jack hammer?

compubox does not differentiate between flush and grazing shots.

Compubox gives fighters zero credit for rolling with punches.

And there is a lot of operator error. Sometimes the stats seem fairly accurate. Other times it seems like Ray Charles could do a better job, and Ray is blind, AND DEAD!

 

IT does get to the point where it's really annoying. Specially when the commentators give it such importance.

 

i think that compubox when use fairly and rationally is a good tool , but as this is esb its used as a reason for a shocking scorecard

 

Explain to me how something so inaccurate can be used as a good tool? Epecially in a sport which puts emphasis on substance and not volume?

like i said when used fairly its a good tool , you look at the numbers and if the guy you gave the round to is shown to be outlanded by a big margin then you should prberly rescore the round

 

I watched both Pavlik/Taylor fights again last night, and it made me think about this thread. If you want to see how crazy compubox can get, there's a fine example.

 

:verysad No, you shouldn't. Scoring of rounds are based primarily on effective punches, not volume... as well as overall boxing skill applied that round. Something which Compubox has no way of tabulating.

 

like i said use fair judgement no doubting its a usefull tool when used fairly and yes volume is a factor along with effective punching
