lol, ESB eating this one up.
Its comparable in some respects, but anything and everything is going to fail when matched up to the combined talents of Mayweather and Pacquiao...

its a classic mismatch w/ a counterpuncher vs a brawler.... but

like in the Dawson/Pascal fight, it'll be up to the counterpuncher to be more active IF the brawler is putting in much more aggression and energy in the fight... in this respect, the end results may be comparable w/ Mayweather/Pacquiao. Pacquiao WILL outwork Mayweather NOTICEABLY - and that cannot be discounted or overlooked by a judge.

thats the only comparable principle i can see between these fights....

oh, I get it since they are both black that means there is a blue print. Aren't you clever? NOT. Mayweather would never ever get a guy that badly hurt and just let him stay there.

I've seen this guys vids before and they are not that good.

What happened last night was more like the hopkins blueprint to beat trinadad, tarver, pavlik or any other 1-2 stalker. Pascal using the gameplan of moving and darting in on his opponent stalking him turned Chad dawson into a 1-2 stalker. That is what happened and that blueprint has already been out.

No, I don't like Floyd BUT he is light years ahead of Dawson in every area, not only that but Floyd does not fight scared either, Now Pac is light years ahead of Pascal as well, and he could pull it off but it won't be easy.

Listen, I like Mayweather to beat Pac. Check the Vid at the 10 minute mark. The guy has an interesting theory. What do you guys think after hearing it?

A beast like Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao would beat Floyd who is not accustomed to having to deal with that kind of pressure and he has shown the world he does not want to deal with that kind of pressure by ducking each of those fights.

Precisely, Pascal/Cotto/Margarito/Pacquiao style aggression and intensity is exactly what will befall Mayweather.

With Pacquiao being the sharpest and fastest fisted he will be the one to brutalize Floyd the worst. But he won't get the chance.

    Pascal ain't Pacquiao either.

I think that yes, Pacquiao would use a similar style to beat Floyd.

Hmm, I usually agree with Dwyer but this piece was kind of "off" to me. Pascal's new style is to stay out of range, move sideways and then select moments to quickly get inside and overwhelm his opponent with flurries. I haven't seen the Dawson fight yet but from what I've read his style was similar to the one he used against Diaconu. But what makes Pac unable to adopt this style?

Firstly, Dawson - despite his gifts - sometimes has problems with establishing range. He's let Johnson, Tarver and Pascal seize the initiative and get inside in some rounds. Mayweather is for my money far and away the best fighter to control range in the game. The only time he's failed was a long time ago against Castillo. He wouldn't get off balance when Pac dives in and he would never concede distance without making Pac take his biggest shots.

Secondly, Mayweather is a much cleverer and mentally stronger fighter than Dawson. He wouldn't be budged by Pac's attempts to drag him in. It won't be like Judah, Mayweather would respect Pac. Instead he would patiently stalk him like he did to Mosley and pick him off. He also has better accuracy than Dawson and is a better counterpuncher who lets you pay. Pac should stay away from long range. It would play right into Floyd's hands and he would get the pace he wants to fight at.

Thirdly, this is not Pac's style. And he would be wise not to adopt it even though he of course is able to. The reach disparity is so huge. That would mean that whenever Pac jumps in, the pain will get so much bigger since he will be diving into the shots. Pac's still that hittable. Intelligent pressure and mid-range is the key for Pac. The shots won't have the same impact then and he can position himself to outwork May.

The match-up comes down to Pac's ability to take these shots he without doubt will have to take in order to land his own. This is the key to Mayweather controlling the distance. If he can't - it will be a looong night for him... He had some small trouble with Hatton so it don't see this as the mis-match I initially envisioned it to be. I still favor Floyd, though.

...Chad Dawson the best fighter in the sport??! And he STILL thinks he is?? When you have an ATG top 30 and ATG top 50-60 in their primes?? Not that I don't think Dawson still has potential to be p4p top 5 or even 3, but this is exactly what annoys me about the overhyping of fighters before they've done enough to warrant it. It's very simple to see even for the non-hardcore fan that Floyd and Pac are miles ahead of Chad.
