That a busy fighter with a decent chin and an ability to put effective pressure on him would always outscore him. The Adamek performance gave people hope that he was something more than that but subsequent performances showed he was always going to be in trouble against fighters of Pascal's nature. Did he ever have a chance against Calzaghe? No. Would he have beaten the current version of Hopkins? I say no. I think Hopkins always configured his workrate to meet the style of fighter he was against, against Chad where he could hit consistently without being hit, he'd come out more like he did against Tarver or Pavlik rather than what he did against Jones or Calzaghe. Kudos to Pascal though, shows what can happen for you if you put in hard work and continue to go for title shots against tough fighters. This win makes Froch win look all the better.
Well in a way, it was mostly the fact that Pascal was never that bothered by what Dawson threw until very late in the fight and therefore was able to pressure and let his hands go in a way that other fighters weren't so sure about.
Yes but I tend to think that Chad was tentative to let his hands go cause Pascal had quicker hands than him + everytime the straight right landed, it sort of stunned him, although not necessarily hurting him. That tends to make a guy think too much in the ring instead of letting instincts take over, therefore let hands go. In the later rounds, Dawson felt the urgency to up the tempo cause he didn't have a choice, whether Pascal could nail him or not...
it wasnt the same Chad like from Adamek or Johnson. He seemd rusty and overtrained + fighting foolishly.
There's no ****ing way you can make that excuse here, considering both of their last fights were within a month of each other and it was Pascal who was coming off a shoulder injury.
he prob started watching the fight n round 11, saw the punch stat numbers and ecided he could make an informed decision.
Dawson was spoiled by HBO. They allowed him to fight nothing but old fighters. Johnson beat Dawson in their first fight, almost had Dawson out.
