Gamboa schools John, too much amateur experience, too much speed, aggression and power. Gamboa by mid rounds TKO or KO...That fight will definitely happen soon.
And you don't think that a fighter can get hit at least once in a 12 round fight? Of course!, Barros hit Gamboa hard maybe 1 or 2 times, and the outcome? Gamboa played with him, practiced new defensive moves, knocked him down whenever he felt like it and then decided to win by UD. He even turned lefty in the last rounds to play around. Let's compare Gamboa's first 18 bouts against Lopez first 18 bouts and then tell me who has fought better opposition...Ready? Yuriorkis Gamboa Jonathan Victor Barros 28-0 Rogers Mtagwa 26-13 Whyber Garcia 22-6 Jose Rojas 25-6 Walter Estrada 35-8 Roger Gonzalez 27-2 Marcos Ramirez 25-0 Al Seeger 27-3 Darling Jimenez 23-2 Johnnie Edwards 13-1 Gilberto Luque 7-4 Adailton De Jesus 19-2 Samuel Kebede 25-1 Nestor Hugo Paniagua 17-4 Thomas Hengstberger 12-5 Joel Mayo 40-11 Araik Sachbazjan 7-0 Alexan Manvelyan 6-1 Juan Manuel Lopez Giovanni Andrade 55-10 Jorge Otero 17-8 Leivi Brea 16-3 Cuauhtemoc Vargas 15-1 Jose Alonso 31-10 Edel Ruiz 28-14 Sergio Mendez 5-0 Alberto Chuc 10-6 Gilberto Bolanos 8-10 Jose Luis Caro 0-3 Manuel Sarabia 15-16 Luis Bolano 41-4 Roberto Chacon 11-5 Charles Jones 2-3 Eric Nemo 5-0 Efrain Perez 1-0 Ivan Cordero 0-2 Luis Daniel Colon pro-debut Do your self the math and see who has fought stronger competition in their first 18 bouts ( as Gamboa has only 18 pro fights ). It's definitely Gamboa. And as far as Gamboa being a midget like you say, he has fought way taller guys all the time both here and in Cuba. Lopez is just half an inch taller than him, Gamboa gave Darling Jimenez a clinic and Jimenez is taller than Lopez! :-(
his win over marquez was a job mcjobbery please, no nationalist dicksuckery. enough of that on these forums. :good
Gamboa's hand speed is phenomenal. I genuinely think him vs. JML would be a FOTY candidate, for however long it would last.
he leaves himself open way to much to get hit. juan ma will KTFO if they fought at this point. He's got the agression but he needs to shore up his defense and he will be a top 10 p4p. Looking forward to see him fight some more.
like ****ing 28. the nice thing about cuban boxing is that they do have a really active environment, good prospects coming out of there and doing really well. the problem is they're spending way too much ****ing time in the amateurs and joining the pros late. Solis. Rigondeaux. Gamboa. See a trend here?
agree with you juanma is laser sharp and def the last guy Gamboa wants to face stylistically he would walk into Juanma lefts all night.
This is the pro game. A Madagascan fighter can beat a ****ing Nicaraguan fighter, it doesn't matter where you're from.
Definitely not because of his skillset, John is a very good boxer. My best guess to Why he is overlooked might be attributed to his inactivity and lack of exposure on a big stage. Just seems like every fighter that came out during his era has either evolved or moved on (JMM). Yet the John remains the same.
Because he takes mandatories like Fernando David Saucedo, who was last fighting in 4,6 and 8 rounders while there is a whole wealth of talent in the FW division: Lopez, Gamboa, Caballero, de Leon, Marquez, Rojas. In other words, he's a *****. (except not really, because it's his management team that ****ing things up for him)
