So I was just thinking of how dreadful the Heavyweight division is and has been while the Klits have been reigning over it..

So I had a thought here, lets say all things were different and that the Klitschkos just happened to arrive ready and on the scene in the early 80's..

Lets leave Tyson out of this equation, hes not here in the 80's with them..

So lets say Vitali and Wlad are each #1 contenders for which ever alphabet belt you wish, WBA, WBC, IBF, what ever.. Point is they are getting titile shots..

The year is 1986 your champions are

    WBC Trevor Berbick
    WBA Bonecrusher Smith
    IBF Michael Spinks

You know who is on the scene at this time, so I am curious as to what you think happens.. Remember there in no Tyson, I want to see if you guys think the Klits could dominate the fighters Tyson did.... Witherspoon, Holmes, Tucker, Thomas they are all here any 80's heavyweight you want just not Tyson..

What version of Wlad and Vitali are you talking about? Today's version of both?

don't forget that cooney and coetzee would be in the mix. two dangerous punchers that would get the klitschkos respect. might even score a KO over wlad. I don't know. I usually don't like wlad against punchers- just look at his recent competetion.

I think both would have a problem. The heavies of the 80's were more adept to bringing a fight to the table. They would be forced out of their comfort zone a lot, and lose a lot. Lets face it Wlad lost to and struggled with some pretty limited fighters, as well as Vitali showed he has a lot of mental lapses when the fight got a little tough. I dont see either brother being very successful at all.

    When did this happened?

    Both became champs and dominate.

Wlad might lose some fights early on but would eventually find the style he has now.

Vitaly retires undefeated with a 50-0 record.

Vitali would still get injured and lose prime years, maybe stop some fat contenders like Page and Witherspoon. Wlad would struggle initially, lose to fighters he shouldn't, but his consistency and hard work would pay off and he'd probably unify the titles like Tyson if he can get the fights made, battering Berbick while shutting out the semi-retired Spinks and Smith in stinkers.

Again, I think substance or lack there of will reveal itself in any era, the fighters will be who they are. Really, inconsitent contenders like Peter, Arreola, McCline, Chageav, Sultan and Jefferson are fairly interchangable with the 80s hot/cold guys like Tucker, Bruno, Smith, Da Truth, Witherspoon, and Tubbs.

I tend to agree with you, one of the main reasons that I made this tread was after having read and older thread in which someone (can't remember the poster) claimed that the division today is about the same as it was when Tyson ruled which I find to be false.. I think the 80's posted a much better class at heavyweight.. Sure some of them had substance abuse problems and many were inconsistent, but even when not at there best fighters like Witherspoon, Thomas, Dokes, Weaver to name a few would be giant improvements over what has been around in the last say 5 years...

Haha, no way.. Cooney I think would punish him to a late stoppage, and the same with smith. Spinks might win a split decision. Biggs would win a split decision. Holmes would win a unanimous decision. Page, Dokes, Weaver, and tubbs would be defeated.
I think that a lot of these match ups are 50/50, because a freak accident could happen like in the Vitali/Byrd Fight... And I don't like the way Vitali gets cut easily. Him dropping his hands is not a good thing either. He would get popped by everybody if he did that.
Basically I don't see either brother being as dominant. in the 90s and 70s, they would have a LOT of losses.

You never mentioned Pinklon Thomas....I reckon he'd make old VITLAY quit like a girl again too.

All this, without even mentioning Tyson :yep
