I got the idea for this thread from Liston3's thread titled "Your favorite fighters biggest flaw."

I think there are a lot of active boxers who could benefit from studying the hell out of certain all time greats. So, the question is, What All Time Great should your favorite fighter study, and why?

If I had the power to do so, I would lock Kelly Pavlik in a room with every Alexis Arguello tape I could find.

KP has many of the same physical and style attributes AA had. Orthodox boxer/puncher, fights tall, big power, prefers to come forward and force the fight at mid range. Alexis wasn't fast, but he had incredible timing. Kelly isn't fast either but his timing is okay. Kelly throws a lot of the same punches Alexis favored, but when it comes to putting those punches together, it ain't even close. Kelly likes to turn a jab into a hook at the last instant, but he needs to learn to hook off the jab like Alexis did.

    Okay -- your turn.

I think I would make Gamboa study Meldrik Talor for his defensive skills as far as elusiveness. I would also make him stud Tyson. I think Gamboa as of late wants to continue to be ferocious but Im sure his trainer doesnt wanting him taking risks because of his lack of defensive prowess. I think watching a young tyson he could see technique, speed, power, and defensive ability.

Zab Judah isn't my favorite fighter but I always thought that it would benefit him to look at some of sweet pea's old stuff. it probably would benefit any fighter to study some of sweet pea's old stuff, but I feel as if Zab had/has (up for debate) the physical ability to emulate whitaker, and as he has shown in spurts during his career, the mental ability as well.

Amir Khan should watch videos of the guy in my avatar. Ezzard had a tighter defense and picked his punches incredibly well, very complete fighter and Khan would be able to maintain his offense while closing his own holes.

Pac should watch more videos of Duran. His head slips and elusive defense would help make pac a better fighter.

Andre Dirrell should watch more of Benny Leonard. Needs to absolutely tighten up his fundamentals. Less jones jr stuff and more intelligent, mentally focused fighting.

Duran was more skilled than Pac.

You can even argue that Duran had the better trainer as well.

I always wanted Jermaine Taylor when he was Middleweight Champion to really study up on Bernard Hopkins and to emulate his style. There was a reason he held onto those belts for so long.

Imagine a guy with Wittaker's defense and Zab's power. They might make that illegal after 2 or 3 fights!
