I decided to open this theme.I am watching boxing for 15 years and I am fighter.My opinion is that most of the journalist or boxing experts doesnt know much about boxing.I read articles and coments before and after matches and they are very bad.In the past there are some opinions of top boxing experts and journalist where they were proven to be wrong:they said about Rocky Marciano that he never be world chapion because he was too short and too light.They said that Archie Moore was too old,George Foreman out of shape and too old,Evander Holyfield in fight with Valuev will be seriously hurt,Bernard Hopkins dont have chance vs Kelly Pavlik and more...True champions dont listen this people but some boxers probbably give up because of their advices.And even today they write that fighters in their 30s are too old or past their prime and that is not true.We are not in 50s 60s 70s we are in 2010 and today fighter longivity is much longer because of diferent training nutritions medicine...
Bull****. No fighter goes into a fight thinking that because a journalist said he would lose that means he should give up. For what it's worth though, Bernard Fernandez wrote a report on the Alexander-Kotelnik fight although he clearly didnt see it. It would of been a great article on both, but not a report. It was about two pages long and only the last paragraph was actually about what happened in the fight, which was basically just the judges scorecards he gave.

In defense of journalists and guys who call fights. Many of them are educated and prolific with words. They are "journalists" for a reason. There are very few boxers who make any significant splash in the sport who are educated and have the ability to make the call on a fight or even write a lucid, concise article pertaining to a fight. Most boxers I grew up with were ignorant. I a from Akron, ohio, not exactly a mecca of education. But, many guys at my gym could barely read and write. You need both, the journalists and the call men as well as the boxer who can give insight into a fighters mind. That is why HBO pair their team like they do.
