I like Bute but who did he beat again? Because Ward beat the general consensus top name at SMW. By shutout. I think the division needs more time to figure out who the definitive top man is right now.

If you take his entire body of work, you could argue that Bute is no.1 at SMW. His resume is deeper than Ward's. However, if Ward runs the table and wins the Super 6, he should probably take over the no.1 spot.

maybe as whole but im jus sayin number 1???

i think his body of work pre big fights maybe.

i just think u need a leapfrogging moment and he hasnt had 1 for me.

kessler was 2nd to calzaghe. calzaghe went up to lhw

    kessler had no big fights

froch had the taylor momnet, possible leapfrog

    ward had the kessler moment

aa was 1 post taylor and a better miranda

andrade or miranda werent moments (impressive yes) now or at the time i dont think were sufficient for him to be deemed number 1

Bute can't be considered the top guy until he beats two or three of the super six (one of them being the winner).

Fact is, all the guys he has beaten are not the elite of the division. In a way he has yet to fight a top, top guy.

As a fan of Bute, I have to be honest in saying he shouldn't be listed ahead of ANY of the guys in the super six right now, simply because they deserve higher ranking based on the quality of opposition each has faced and will face over the course of the tournament.

Bute, while clearly a good enough fighter is the product of current hype and excitement. He lost to Andrade in the first fight. No need for anyone to delude themselves about that fact.

I am Canadian and if resume matters then it should be:

    1. Ward
    2. Kessler
    3. Froch
    4. Bute
    5. Dirrell
    6. AA
    7. Sartison
    8. Green

Kessler's resume is deeper than Bute's and his best wins are better.

Froch's resume is deeper and his best wins are better than Bute's best wins.

    ...

So there is really no way Bute can rank ahead of Kessler nor Froch.

The question is where Ward shall rank... he clearly does not have nearly as deep a resume as Kessler and Froch. His best win is good though, although there is only one.

Probably he has to rank ahead of Kessler because of that one fight. Like Kessler ranks ahead of Froch based on their fight.

    ______________

That would leave the following ranking:

    1. Ward
    2. Kessler
    3. Froch

The rest is more up in the air, but Bute has a pretty good case for being no. 4 I think.

Bute has done a great job in the division, but at the same time I view Ward as the future pound for pound top dog in the sport. Ward has the best win between the two with Kessler, but Bute has a greater quantity of quality wins. Ward winning the tournament while undefeated would probably put him in top spot... though I would prefer Bute and Ward fight before saying that.
