It's going to be a close fight but I definitely see Hagler outworking and outmuscling Hopkins over the distance, especially if it's a 15-round fight.

The Hagler that fought Minter beats any version of Hopkins IMO.

For what it's worth I thought the judges' scores were off in the Hagler-Duran fight. Duran is an absolute legend but Marvin outboxed him fairly cleary in my eyes.

I just want to point this out: Go watch Hopkins prior to his fight with Felix Trinidad.

With all due respect,if you go back and watch the fight, you'll see an overly-respectful attitude of Marvin towards Duran in that one.If you watch the 6th round,if Marvin fought the whole round like typical Marvin instead of uncommonly cautious Marvin,he probably would have stopped Duran in that round,as he had Stonehands in a heap of trouble. With that being said,Marvin still won the fight quite clearly. As I remember as it's been a long time,I personally had it 10-5.There is nothing in the Executioner's resume at middleweight that indicates he would beat Marvin.Hagler by clear decision in either 12 or 15 rounds

I know Hopkins has the record for most middleweight title defenses, but "the 2 best middleweights of the past 30 years"?Roy Jones beat Hopkins when they were ranked #1 and #2 at middleweight at that point in their careers.I believe the 2 best middleweights of the past 30 were Marvin Hagler and Roy Jones.

Roy Jones didnt achieve enough at middleweight to warrant a spot as one of the two best middleweights.Besides a win over a green and inexperenced hopkins his only other wins over name boxers are thulani Malinga and jorge fernando castro who were both past their prime.Jones is one of the greats but it wasnt because of what he achieved at middleweight.

Logical.Well put:good. However,Jones was green, too. And at that time,Jones and Hopkins were #1 and #2 at middle. It's just that Hopkins' resume is about longevity even at middle because he never beat a great middle.

I agree Hagler was over-respectful. In the last three rounds Hagler stopped boxing with the master-boxer and as a result won them very clearly. But it's not one way or the other; Duran's boxing also gave him problems. He set traps and managed to make Hagler reach and look a bit clumsy and foolish, actually. Two moves I remember in particular: Hagler reaching, Duran using upper-body movement to do a McCallum-like right hand right into Hagler's body. Hagler felt that punch. Hagler still won most of those rounds too by out-working Duran and I had the same score as you.

There's nothing in his resume perhaps, but there is in his style. Hopkins, like Duran, is a master of setting traps and counter-punch. Hopkins's best weapon is the right hand counter - incidentally exactly what Hagler is susceptible to. Hopkins likes southpaws. Hopkins has better defense, is bigger and has better stamina and chin than Duran at that weight. He could clinch and slow down Marvin when he needs to and his excellent chin can withstand Hagler's power. Regarding Hopkins' alleged stamina issues - watch his earlier fights and you will see a stamina beast. I'd make him a clear favourite actually. But Hagler can never be counted out and obviously has tools that Hopkins does not, like that octopus-reach like jab or his diverse offensive arsenal. I think that jab will be countered by right hands and that will be the story of the fight I feel. Hopkins will try to control the pace by making it an outside fight and will, for the most part, succeed. It's up to Hagler to be the aggressor.

    Hopkins clear decision.

if you read my posts it says he would beat hagler over 12 rounds not 15, id take hagler over 15. hopkins is just the better boxer and definitely the better tactician. likei said it wouldnt be a shutout but a very close fight, plus against southpaws hopkins is very efficient.

Hagler. Hagler had it all. Attitude, heart, strength, grit, skills, excitement and power. Hagler and Monzon in their primes would have been the best middleweight matchup of the past 50 or more years. Taking nothing away from Hopkins, he as the grit and skills, but not the power, and certainly not the excitement. They both have extreme attitudes, which is the main reason this would be an interesting matchup. With his wiliness, Hopkins would probably join Duran and Leonard in going the distance, but I don't see him winning the fight. Hopkins versus Leonard might be closer, though not exciting. Hopkins versus Hearns may be the best match up of the lot.

Marvin's footwork is superior to Hopkins, which would accentuate the jab, with his superior reach.I just don't see Hopkins better on the outside.Hopkins would have to be lunging in,where he'd be punished. And on the inside,Bernard is crafty and knows all the dirty tricks, but Marvin was no choirboy and was bullishly strong. His workrate is better than Hopkins',too. And in all honesty,Bernard was never a big puncher, even at middleweight,so his occasionally landing some straight rights when in range would be shaken off by Marvin.Hagler by decision as he's just busier and would impose his will.

Ya the Hopkins win was still a very good win for Jones im not trying to take anything away from it lol.But you can only fight the best of your generation and Hopkins did that.He has wins over a lot of good names anyways and i dont think theres any other middleweight of the last 30 years who could compare legacy wise with him besides Hagler.
