Joe travels to the states for this fight.

Joe is in his prime at super middle.

Toney is in his prime at super middle.

Both undefeated World Super Middleweight Champs - at their best.

    What happens ? :bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb

Toney had power at 168, handspeed, great defense and counter punching ability. He would've beaten Joe's ass handily and stopped him late. People think way too highly of Calzaghe because of his wins against an ancient Hopkins and Jones....he would've been destroyed by both of those guys if they had fought him in their respective primes.

Calzaghe was a very good fighter but not on Toney's level

Joe's style is suited for toney. Joe like to come forward and toney likes to counter. Joe slaps on toney rock chin. If Joe got dropped by no power hopkins and gunshy jones, how is he going take hits from toney who is a pretty good puncher at 168? it is not like joe is hard to hit either. Bhop will nailling joe everything and bhop can't even throw past 30 punches a round.

yup, good post and i'm glad people are pointing to the stylistic advantages for toney, not just superior skill level.

joe walks in, throws a ton of punches with zero defense and relies ENTIRELY on athleticism. fair, and it served him well against the opposition he faced

his kind of athleticism is not the same kind as jones who would always trouble toney. calzaghe's was more overwhelming guys with volume. when he couldn't drown them in punches and faced an opponent who could thread the needle (hopkins) he looked like utter ****

what hopkins could do sporatically, as you stated, toney would do consistently. round after round, picking between ineffective flurries. calzaghe ain't barkely...and that's not a compliment. if barkely's face looked like ground meat, calzaghe's would look like dog ****

Toney wasnt that big a puncher AT 160 OR 168

His career at middle and super middle was

    44 wins 1 loss 2 draws (29 KO's)

He went the distance 18 times in 47 fights.

Joe was super fit and throw so many punches and had a good chin.

It would be a tough fight.

Toney lands at will. Calzaghe takes the first few rounds because Toney always liked to have a look first, then starts pinging Joe with fast counters and left hooks. Might even floor Joe on a way to a comfortable victory.
