I thought he was ordered the rematch 'cos Lauri rematch complained that he was gesturing to touch gloves when Paul flattened him
I'm not here to make excuses for anyone, BUT - agree the fight with Smith after the loss to Daws does not in general constitute a direct shot at the title especially one as reputable as the European, however the reasons behind the Daws fight were well documented at the time and now appear to be sorted. In respect to the Smith fight this was just supposed to be a marking time fight before a Commonwealth Title shot as Olusegun was always going to move on to bigger and better things. This was the first time Barry had been back in the ring after the tragic death of his long time friend, trainer and father figure Archie McKay , and the fight ended the way it should have when someone i.e Smith is fighting a more accomplished boxer ( 1st round stoppage) Discussions were at an advanced stage for the Commonwealth before the opportunity to fight for the European became a reality. What do you do in Barry's position ?? Do you go for the generally perceived more winnable (and less reputable )option i.e Commonwealth or do you go for the European with a belief that you have the ability, attitude, mental and pysical attributes to do yourself justice ? I know what I would have chosen, and I believe that the fight on October 2nd will provide a high level of intensity and be very entertaining and not the **** fight you think. I could discuss the Daws KO but it would only appear that I was making excuses and have no intention of doing so. I will say that at no time in the fight was Daws exhibiting the necessary punching power to KO Barry the fight ended with an exausted Morrison on his knees not knocked out ( thought I would clear this up for those who didn't see the fight) Anyway - opinions opinions Later
No worries mate. I've not got the slightest beef with Morrison personally. Would I have done the same in his position? Yes, I probably would. If he's had problems that have now been sorted then great, good luck to the lad. Not a fight I'd be rebounding straight into though.
Good line - not accurate - neither is he my best mate or I have no confidence in him . I have every confidence that he will give his all - prepare properly and with a little luck may bring the Euro title back to Bonnie Scotland. Stranger things have happened Later :happy
Not one to be refused either - may be a long time waiting for another opportunity. Need to take these chances when they appear. It's a short career at the best of times, Barry has a young kid to look after ( Dempsey) and another on the way . Hopefully he can surprise a few and do himself justice - it wont be due to lack of commitment anyway. Thanks for response - nice to hear that some people on this forum can be respectful towards individual's attempting to achieve their goals and the effort that this takes in relation to lifestyles etc. Later:good
Shut up dafty - that's your role you fool - now lets be a good little girl and toddle off under that stone you crept from - don't bother me again Bye forever:hi:
Didn't Nutjob use this "Betfair" tactic yesterday for Burns-Martinez? Is it going to be the new ESB equivilent of "calling out"?
The safest way of calling out - at least there is no danger of someone smashing him up from behind the safety of his key-pad - What a fudge pusher :hi:
yes wrong - on both counts! A. Lauri wasnt going to touch gloves, nor was McCloskey, and B. the rematch has nothing to do with how the fight ended.
