Yes. First off, I felt Holyfield won comfortably - none of this Harold "Ring Generalship" Lederman draw bollocks, that was a clear win. Second off, I was really impressed with the adjustments Holyfield made coming in. Bowe didn't lose that fight; Holyfield won it.
If Bowe took some of the right hands he took off Holifield off someone like Lewis or Forman he would have been KO'd pretty quicky - His style was not suited to a heavy hitter - even Herbie Hide almost KO'd him until Hide thought he was Holifield and started trading with him.
I often wonder about this same thing but to be fair to Bowe, fighters like Lewis and Foreman wouldn't be landing and throwing as often as Holyfield was.
How can Bowe or any boxer be a top 10 ATG from their preformance against one other fighter - ATGs need to prove they can adapt to different styles of fighters not just fighters they have a massive weight and height advantage over - Bowe against Holifield was so easy to hit that Earnie Shavers may well have KO'd him and Bowes reaction to Lewis KOing Ruddock was proof enough that he avoided anyone with a punch.
Exactly. Hide was the hardest puncher Bowe ever faced and by Bowes admission he was out on his feet and just threw a wild punch which connected. Now if it was someone like Foreman or Lewis hitting him, they were excellent finishers so its no coincidence that he was kept away from elite punchers - How would he do against Tua? I think he would have to take some to give some and I dont see Bowe taking a flush shot from Tua either
I don't know. Bowe is just a plain better and more skilled fighter than Tua. I love Tua but he's one of those guys who look better when discussing him than he is when you watch him fight. Stylewise Tua may have the edge but he's facing a better fighter than he is.
He really was, I remember thinking he might make a little more noise then he actually did, hes still fighting these days, though I have not seen him since his loss to Vitali.
Tua would have a punchers chance but I think Bowe gives him a beating to be honest, Bowe was very aggressive and he would smash Tua with uppercuts and body shots on the inside I think he might even stop Tua..
It amazes me that you don't even know what Evander Holyfield was suffering from in the III fight with Riddick Bowe. Evander Holyfield had hepatitis B or C. He must of been recovering from the Illness, which would of weakened him and maybe affected his trainning camp. Thats why he was weakened and could'nt really sustain his attacks. Evander Holyfield was in shape, but his body must of not been fully recovered.
I'm just saying that in a time machine, I cannot think of 10 other dude's who were once champ beat the 1992 Bowe at 235 pounds...... Bowe was fit, skilled and game in Nov. of '92........ :deal MR.BILL:bbb Plus, Ol' Holy has proven he owns a top-10 ATG heart and chin if ever a guy had to prove so..... Many ex-champs would've been TKO'd by round 11 against the '92 Bowe...... Holy went all 12 rds......
Great Fight, Great Posts, Great Thread.....Enough said :bbb I long for the day when i see a fight even half as intense as this again on ppv...... (still dreaming) I watched this fight again the other day, hard to believe its a heavyweight fight.....True grit display on both fighters behalf.....They both deservedly cemented their place in history with this one
That hepatitis excuse of 1995 was bull****...... Holy claimed the flu drained him after the fight..... Holy, to my knowledge, never had hep...... NOW! In 1998, up in New York, "Holy-Akinwande" fell apart because of several things..... Poor ticket sales and I believe both Henry Akinwande and Ray Mercer tested + for hepatitis...... Mercer was to be part of the undercard as was "Duran-Joppy." MR.BILLbbb
