I was looking for gangsters who boxed but didn't think of Gigante.

I remember reading that Gigante was called "The Oddfather" because of his bizarre behaviour which consisted of him walking the streets of New York in his bathrobe and slippers, talking gibberish to himself. His lawyers used his "condition" as a defense to try to prevent him facing R.I.C.O charges.

Turns out he had nothing wrong with him and it was all a ploy to stay out of prison and he was as lucid and dangerous as any self respecting mob boss should be.

Very Good Burt! I wish I was home to work on this one.

Vincent Gigante was no stranger to me, as he use to live in Bergen County in New Jersey. Old Tappan, to be exact, and that is not too far from where I live. He also fought several New Jersey boxers that I did some research on, such as Steve Kish, who lived in the same town, Garfield, New Jersey, as my friend Tippy Larkin. Also Freddie Lott, who lived in Newark, and fought some very good fighters during his career.

I still remember when he was put away for good. When he passed away in December of 2005, many members of Ring 8 talked about him.

This afternoon, I went to the press conference for the Tomasz Adamek/Michael Grant bout and I ran into Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. I said, you don't remember me do you? He said, to my surprise, your the President of the Boxing Hall of Fame in New Jersey and then he said my name. It's nice to be recognized by an outstanding Champion as he was. He is also a very nice guy.

Burt, I have been helping out another former New York fighter by the name of Tony Gandolfo. Did you ever hear of him or see him box? He now lives in Passaic, N.J. and is 84 years old. He was 21-4-2 and boxed pro from 1949 to 1952. In the Amateurs, he beat Ralph Tiger Jones.

    Thanks!

I have been the President for 25 years and their Historian for about 30. You can go to the following web site and read the rest, or just google my name.

As far as Tony Gandolfo goes, I have known him for years, and yes was pretty good. Right now I am off to his home to help him out again.

Hya hh..Yes I have heard of tony Gandolfo, but I am not sure if I ever saw him fight.
But, I had seen a middleweight favorite of mine, Jimmy Herring from
Ozone Park, several times at the now defunct Ridgewood Grove [winning]
and it wouldn't surprise me if Tony Gandolfo was in the other corner.
hh, I admire you for your work on behalf of older needy fighters...
    I really do...b.b.

Thank you so much Burt. Coming from someone like you, means a lot.

By the way, I am also the President of the Amateur Boxing in New Jersey as well. Last month our organization wanted to send many of our kids to the Ringside Tournament in Kansas But we came up $5,500 short. These kids were all from the inter-city and most never were out of the State. Well I had an idea, I have a E-Mail list of about 1,000 boxing people so I reached out to them. When it was all said and done, the boxing people sent me a total of $5,755, and all the kids went.

I guess my prayers was answered once again!
