What is his record as far as predicting rounds? The only round prediction I recall is against Joe Bugner; I think Ali said round 8 he'd KO Bugner and Bugner went the distance to lose. Seriously, does anyone know Alis career record as far as prediction accuracy?
In his Cassius Clay days he did this a lot, and I think he was quite accurate. In the early days he was getting it right. I cant remember all of them. But Archie Moore will fall in four. He did. Henry Cooper went out in five rounds, just as Clay had said he would.
He predicted some four/five before Liston which he got right. He also had Dunn right in 1976. He gave his gloves to a fan after a fight and the fan saw that he had written the round inside them.
Google isn't helping much yet, here is his prediction verses Frazer, no round mentioned: "Ding! Ali comes out to meet Frazier But Frazier starts to retreat If Frazier goes back any further He'll wind up in a ringside seat Ali swings to the left Ali swings to the right Look at the kid Carry the fight Frazier keeps backing But there's not enough room It's a matter of time Then Ali lowers the boom Now Ali lands to the right What a beautiful swing! And deposits Frazier Clean out of the ring Frazier's still rising But the referee wears a frown For he can't start counting Till Frazier comes down Now Frazier disappears from view The crowd is getting frantic But our radar stations have picked him up He's somewhere over the Atlantic Who would have thought that When they came to the fight That they would have witnessed The launching of a coloured satellite!"
He predicted he would stop Holmes in 8 which never happened And he predicted he would stop Norton in the third fight
That poem was for Liston. Ali said in a dressing room interview before tfotc that "Frazier falls in six"
the crowd did not dream, when they put down their money That they would see a total eclipse of the sonny. He just substituted liston for frazier
I know he was wrong about the following fights: Jones Liston (could very well have made come it true had Liston not quit, though) Bonavena (had Bonavena hurt in the predicted round, but got hurt himself) Frazier Lyle (had Lyle against the ropes a large part of the predicted round, but not seriously hurt)
i think cassius clay had predicted 11 fights correct upto archie moore. clay had to go before the boxing commission cuz they thought he was fixing all his fights - they could hardly believe he could correctly predict them all like he had been doing in all his early fights. you can see footage of this in ali documentaries.
He predicted he'd get Mac Foster out in five, and really went after Mac from the outset to make his prediction stick. At the end of that round, he waved his arms and shook his head in disgust. Starting with round six, he reverted to his more characteristic stick and move.
He was almost correct for the first Liston fight. Between Liston and Richard Dunn,12 years later,he did n't predict the round that much. He said round 8 for Ron Lyle, but had to wait three more rounds.
after two years as a pro Ali fought 15 times 13KO's and he correctly called the demise of his opponents on 12 occasions.
