Excellent interview by Daniel Herbert who is my favourite writer at BN and who also does consistently good previews too. Murray's career has been on a slow burner compared to others who have got their chances ahead of him, Khan and Mitchell etc. Murray says he would like a shot at Katsidis - I think this would be a really interesting match-up and would do great business if it was held in Manchester. I hope that it happens soon - or a potential domestic dust-up between Murray v Mitchell would be a mouthwatering prospect down the line. Murray's contract is up in October, and if Hennessey hasnt got a TV deal by then it seems a sure bet that he will move on to someone like Hatton. Let's hope Murray goes on to get the fights that he deserves - there are some cracking match-ups for him.....
Katsidis said he would be happy to fight Murray too (although it will would have to obviously be after the proposed Kats vs JMM now) in BN a couple of weeks ago: "There's been a lot of possibilities (with regards to a fight with Murray). I've seen a bit of the stuff going back and forth in the media. You've got John Murray's camp trying to do the best for him. My camp's trying to do the best for me. That's all it is. It's a competitive thing. If there was something realistic there, the fight would have happened. Nothing came back. There was never an offer put on the table. It all fizzled out." If Murray signed with Warren, then you would be sure he could get him the Katsidis fight.
If Warren was more inclined to take a gamble, he'd sign Katsidis and promote him here. There's enough Aussies living in the UK to make it a realistic proposition, plus anyone who knows anything would realise that he's never in a bad fight.....
Has it ever really worked. Has there ever been a non Brit at that lower world class level that could sell tickets agaisnt non brits?
Warren knew the threat Kats brought into the fight against Mitchell, so he has shown already in the past that he would put another fighter in with him. Kats is known over here and a fight against Murray would be the fight Kats vs Mitchell promised. Murray wins, Frank has a 'world' champion. Murray loses, he can throw Michell in with him for a big domestic showdown. There are worse champions in the division (Vazquez, arguably Acosta), but they're bad style match-ups for Murray and, IMO, he would be outboxed by both of them. I wouldn't fancy his chances against Katsidis either really, but the fight would be big, exciting and will help to build up Murray's name (something fat Mick has struggled to do throughout his career) win or lose. A 118-110 loss in a boring match-up with Vazquez would not help build up his name.
Could be good but who's he fought to think that he could take on Katsidis? The few fights that he has had over last couple years (that I can remember) recently have been pretty straightforward pushing people back and working them over as the rounds go on. I'm not sure he'd be able to cope fighting on the back foot against someone like Katsidis, and would want to match him with a tough Mexican or Yank rather than arsing about with any other Euro or Brits
I would like to see Murray in with someone like Anthony Peterson before he faced the likes of Katsidis. It would be the type of fight to see how good he really is, an acid test, before he tackles the likes of Katsidis....
very good interview but i didnt think it was particualrly well written, a few things, cant rmember off ma head without the mag in front of me though. still, pretty good, good writer also. cant remember who did that amatuer interview, thought that couldda been slightyl better written, to be clearer and all maybe njust picky
Acosta that Venezuelan dude is quite a skilled fighter and he has power he layed out a beatdown on Antillon and moses before they both got KO'd the same **** would happen to murray as for Anthony peterson, he is 1 of the most talented black horses of that division i'm quite sure he'd box murrays head off, vasquez would beat murray as well and katsidis wont fight him because murrays a nobody on the international scene his options are limited he could fight john molina jr stylistically it would be an exciting bout
How good is Peterson? How far do you think he can go? I know they are different weight classes, but do you think he has more talent than his bro Lamont?
