Zhirov beat the Yank Williams 10 months ago, and you're right had a break and is 36.

On the other side of the coin, he's only had 3 losses in over 40 fights, and they were to James Toney, Michael Morer, and Joe Mesi who retired undefeated!

 

If Jirov took a tune up, I think it'd be a more than acceptable opponent.

 

He's younger than Green. Has had more fights, and has been in against better opposition than Green.

The only obvious question-mark is his layoff - but Green also had a layoff a couple of years ago.

On the face of it, looks like a reasonable match-up.

His name is spelt dififrently , Vassiliy Jirov on google searches but on boxrec its Vasily Zhirov

Not sure what to make of this matchup, i think Zhirov is way past his prime.

If this fight goes ahead its imo a possible gee up for a future Toney fight, Zhirov went the distance with Toney so the game plan would be to stop Zhirov by KO/TKO and captalise on that win by using it to prop up a fight with Toney and sell it to the public. However i must admit if Green did fight Toney even id buy the PPV because i rekon Toney would take him to town and thats something id love to see! lol

Agree Buster............I wish Green's management would stop googling ' inactive fighters who have a name' and fight someone who out there fighting regularly. Its a wonder they're not trying to find Harding's number.

He's younger than Green, has had more experience and fought better opponents.

In a recent thread a group of people including yourself were spruking about how Toney could have crushed Green in their sparring session if he wanted to, and this guy Zhiroz, went the distance with an earlier and better version of Toney than Green sparred.

In 2003 Toney was a bloody destroyer! Toney stopped Holyfield the very next bout after Zhiroz went the distance with him!

 

Agreed but there are a lot worse propositions out there too - this guy's only lost 3, and all to very good opposition.

It is almost impossible to be in your prime fighting once in 3 years. Infact almost by definitional of the terms it is difficult. People in their prime do not fight once every 3 years. It just doesnt happen.

Doesnt mean he cant come back and be good.... just "prime" it simply will not be without a tune up and even then is unlikely. He wont have to be in his prime though to be tough.

Also age is a funny thing. It affects some people more than others. Having more fights for the same age is probably an indicator that he is older (in terms of how beat up he is) for his age......

 

It's a step up from Siaca and Briggs, as someone said, there are better fights but i'll take this one with the guys pedigree and winning by KO last October isn't that bad as inactive compared to Briggs

 

Never ceases to amaze me the way people right fighters off here in seconds flat, having never even seen them.

This guy's career, though more impressive, reads quite similarly to Green's. Green retired for a year and a half himself remember.

Generally, no.
But if you talk yourself up into being something, you should probably do something to prove it.
