So the opponents being discussed for Andre Berto in the fall are Marcos Maidana and Anrdriy Kotelnik. HBO pushing Maidana. Why 140-pounders?_______________

HHe hasn't fought one top fighter at 147 yet and now he wants to fight a 140 lber?? **** Berto.

Why would HBO push Maidana... It's really HBO blowing these guys and letting them think they run the sport..

I feel sorry for these fighters sometimes. The fans simply don't grasp how this business works and often lash out at these fighters for things they can't control. HBO is pretty much a defacto promoter now. Berto's side really can't do much without their backing. As a result, their choice of opposition is strongly dictated by HBO. HBO will only approve from a relatively small pool of opponents for Berto.

People want Berto to fight a top WW, but who would that be? Pac and Mayweather are out, Mosley is coming off a bad loss and is fighting in September anyway, and HBO won't approve any of the other champs. I doubt HBO will approve Clottety either. They tried to go to 154 to fight Bundrage and Cotto, and were rejected by both. Berto is pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.

GBP and HBO are pushing Maidana towards Berto so then they don't have to make the Con man fight Maidana, they can say he's tied up again. :yep:yep:yep:yep:yep

Great post. Your correct in that the fighters don't have that much say in who they fight yet they are the ones that always get the blame when they are stuck fighting a lesser opponent.

    Bingo.

I'll take Berto vs Maidana and have a beer and a bowl of popcorn ready for the opening bell. Boxing fans are a fickle bunch.

Possibly, but why would they risk Maidana when they have the 4 best junior welterweights fighting for them.. They could make big matchups for the next two or three years...

If Berto destroys Maidana which I seriously doubt after that Urango fight, but still it could happen.. Then Maidana is no longer the threat he is perceived as now..

Berto can't get a date at 147 with a named fighter so he's looking to fight everything but.
HBO is pushing Maidana and Kotelnik - man, if they like them so much why don't they let them rematch? Anyway, HBO thinks Maidana = ratings and they feel like they owe Kotelnik (also, they might just OWE Kotelnik, like residual deals from his Khan and Alexander fights).

Because the Con artist is there "future star" and "cash cow." Or so they think he is. :yep

Maidana's a relative nobody and don't sell tickets. (compare to Con boy)

GBP will do anything to keep the Con artist away from Maidana's fists. :yep

They know he'd get knocked the **** out. :hey:yep:thumbsup:deal:deal:deal:deal

Exactly. And then the Con man and his followers can say "Maidana just lost to Berto, no point fighting him!"

How did Quintana expose him? Berto looked great in that fight. You need to start saving your pcp for after the fights.

He was getting ooutboxed much of the time and the fight was nowhere near as wide on the scorecards as HBO had it. It5 was practically even give or take a point at the time of stoppage and Berto looked ****.

his duck of Mosley should haunt him. It was pathetic.

They agreed to 60/40 for the January date. Mosley comes back ready to make the fight for the same deal, but Berto demands 50/50 this time?

Why? Because Mosley was beaten by the best? Because Berto looked less than impressive vs Quintana? Really, what justification did he have asking for 50/50 this time around?
