Beyond what they could do in the ring Zora Folley 'n Paul Pender were all but invisible. Can you think of others?

Maybe the original incarnation of George Foreman. It's true that he had a brutish air of menace that could be described as "perosnality", but I rather like Mailer's breakdown (for once).

"When he spoke it was vague [i think he said]. It may have been deep. It may have been non-responsive...Foreman was almost like a physical guru."

So maybe not quite without personality but with his personality defined purely by his physicality? Of course, in his second run, Foreman became one of the most personable and for a short spell, beloved boxers of all time - but the original certainly seemed to have that gift of blankness.

Lennox Lewis by far. Guy has the personality of a door knob.

Monzon, as much of a fan I am of him, well...he NEVER showed signs of a personality, IMO...way too cold and aloof...I'll name more later...great thread idea J.G.

What about Joe Louis? I know away from the camera he was said to have a good sense of humour but in front of the camera's he was always told to keep very quiet and be polite, which sometimes gave of the impression he didn't have much of a personality.

There's a whole thread right now about Louis, some feel he had a minor learning disorder or slowness. :think

Yeah I had a read through it yesterday. I know he went to a slow learning school and sometimes came across a bit slow but I think he just liked to keep himself to himself.

Aside from Paul Pender bein' a fireman 'n a dull dull affective stand-up boxer, he must be one of the few living humans that had a charisma bypass.

Anyone know anything COLORFUL about him?

    He allegedly said this:

"Robinson was not a great boxer. I tell people that, and they look at me like I'm positively insane. 'The great Ray Robinson!' He wasn't a great boxer. He was the greatest puncher that ever lived, with a repertoire of punches that nobody could throw. He was fast with his hands, fast afoot. That's all. I hit him with left jabs, which he never had in his life. But Ray Robinson had the greatest repertoire of punches of any fighter that ever lived. But boxing ability, he couldn't shine Willie Pep's shoes as far as pure boxing ability."

Paul Pender made Gene Tunney look like Henny Youngman.
