How many times did he fight in 1987? Doesn't that tell you how things work when boxers become world champions these days?
What are you comparing, young HW champion of the world, absolute party animal Mike Tyson (like never seen before or since), an absolute media phenomenon, 'the badest man on the planet', bursting onto the scene with?
Yeh but this is a tournament..? The Supersixx is meant to be a tournament..!!! Tournaments should be over a shorter period and fighters need to be allot more active, Mike Tyson was the world heavyweight champion. "He was'nt taking part in any tournament" So it tells me **** all. The Supersixx is not the best concept to happen of the past 20 years, its a ****ing load of bull****. And i can't stand it.
Fair enough, a thread on Dirrell and seeing reference to Tyson just automatically sent me off on wild one
1) Show me the defintion of "tournament" that includes a timescale..... 2) Mike Tyson didn't fight 13 times a year WHILE he was heavyweight champion. No offence PK but maybe you should just forget about the Super 6? You don't like it and and thats fair enough but c'mon......
OH, I dare say he did, just not in the ring. The Tyson thing was a phenomenon, I'm surprised he managed to get in the ring more than once a year.
This is a tournament, Iron Mike Tyson was the Heavyweight Champion of the world. Mike Tyson became World Champion in 1986, he ripped through the Heavyweight division in 1986, and earned his title fight against Trevor Berbick. Mike Tyson fought 13 Times in 1986. Someone during this topic, has had the nerve to say that the Supersixx is the best concept to happen to boxing in the last 20 years. I'm sorry if i disagree, but Fights like Holyfield vs Tyson, Lewis vs Tyson, Mayweather vs Hatton, Haye vs Valeuv. Dwarfed the Supersixx.........David Haye by himself, in the United Kingdom inspired people once again. I'm going back the boxing gym at 24 years of age in afew weeks, and I'm buying a "Haymaker T-shirt".......in black to wear. "Dropping bombs" And fighters like Prince Naseem Hamed, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Michael Watson, Steve Collins, Frank Bruno, Lennox Lewis...............did more for boxing than this complete and utter epic business failure that the Supersixx is, and has been and will continue to be for however long it lasts. It was meant to of saved boxing and got the grassroots and average joes interested again, and it's done **** all, nobody cares about it. "If my name was Sir Allen Sugar, and my apprentices put this **** together....they would all be sacked" Boxing is losing interest at grassroots level, and the supersixx is doing nothing about that...............fair play, the fights are great.......but what boxing needs is life. I don't need to show you a definition of a "Tournament" needing a time-scale. Its common sense, people all over the world in any tournament expect the competition to be over a shorter duration than normal. Tournaments capture the public's imagination, because the action is close together and more epic. Carl Froch All i asked for was better promotion and the fights to be 2months apart. I know my man, Carl Froch would be down for that............because he's a bad man. And its a shame, that he is not a household name...........and he's still a no mark. "Because kids need to see bad people, do bad things on TV these days.................i can remember when i saw Nigel Benn beat down Nicky Piper when i was a kid, and i turned out perfectly fine, there is nothing wrong with me" The Supersixx is just a bunch of fights that have been put together. I bet you if they wanted to, David Haye, Floyd Mayweather, could fight more than 3 Times in one year if they wanted to. I'm not even bothering with this topic anymore, the supersixx is aload **** and a complete failure. And i ****ing Hate it..!!!
PK i gotta say mate im glad you went the retired boxer route and made a comeback, right or wrong you're posts are always written with passion and are a good read Dirrell quitting Super 6 rumour to credibilty of the tourny to Tyson, man alive
Pascals referee man. Still 20000 short?? As others and I have stated Dirrell cant sell ice to eskimoes and im not sure if Ward has a passport to travel outside Oakland. Very talented fighters but it'd be a waste of money to put this in Vegas. Small hall in MSG? Hell itv might get another fight free... joooooooooooooke
------------------------------------- Well look how many canadians floked to see Duran V Leonard. That was neutral for them and yet the house was packed out. In any case - I doubt any of the venues so far have exceeded 10,000 let alone 30,000. But the real commercial aspect of this tournament is the PPV. When you have a PPV event the gates are just chump change anyway.
