 I'm kidding. Penalosa is one of my favorite fighters of all time, and I've only spoken of Manny in a positive manner since his win over Ricky Hatton. You lot tend to forget that. I've been called a ******* plenty of times so far this year.

Nazim is an old man, like most old men, talking about how he doesn't get along with the new generation. So you, as a person who doesn't "get it", latches on to the first "authority" you feel has a similar point of view. If you sat down with Nazim off camera my guess is you would say he is even crazier than FMJ by miles. And if a reporter prods him enough I am sure he will NEVER be on TV again.

For most of Black American's existence (and other minorities) it has been about assimilating into and being accepted by mainstream culture. These times have passed. Hip hop just happened to be the first music movement to feel that way AND succeed. Guys like RJJ and FMJ are young, rich, Black and into what they are into. They don't care if you like it or accept it. This is what is embraced.

That wasn't his observation. If it was that simple then cool. Wrong, but cool.

I wasn't offended. Just stating if that was the case guys like JT, SSM, etc... would enjoy the same cross pollination of support. They don't.

RJJ and FMJ are supported because of their skills and personality in addition to their race.

You are being overly dismissive of my point, and now assuming I'm only of the opinion that Floyd appeals to the hip hop community because Nazim said so. For these reasons, in addition to you being irritating, I'd no longer like to discuss this with you. You keep on believing that they have fans simply because they are arrogant in front of the camera. Black and proud.

I was going to say the same thing. Nazim is like every older black guy who lumps everything into the "hip hop" generation if he doesn't understand something about it, or is just plain mad at someone younger than him.:good

Some people are fans of incredible skill, which is something both Roy and Floyd had/have in spades.

the fact that mosley turned muslim just because he is surrounded by a few of them is a reason why he aint on level of floyd and roy, to me that is selling out. and shows his personality aint as strong as the others.

    he aint his own man

I had these notions even before I saw the interview. Nazim was correct. He may never have even said the words "Hip Hop" in the entire interview, but he was absolutely spot on with his comments from what I remember. Floyd and Roy both appeal to African Americans who listen to Hip Hop and Gangster Rap, I don't see what's so controversial about that statement.

It's a factor but not the only one, Marnoff.

I think he has a valid point though...

You may not know a lot about the NFL, but you have guys like Marvin Harrison, who was the epitome of a good black guy who quietly did his job on the field without incident. He will never have as many fans as a guy like T.O., Ochocinco, and guys like that who are overly arrogant and often wrongly villified in the eyes of a lot of blacks.

It's why I like them and is one of the many reasons I wish Roy'd hang up the gloves.

So... you are saying you admire Ali because he is black. Racist pig.

Hardcore Boxing fans will appreciate Boxers for many reasons, including their skills and abilities inside the squared circle. Casual fans are more liable too support fighters because of where they come from, or what they represent.

In my mind, fighters like Mayweather and Jones represent Hip Hop culture. I don't know a great deal about this culture, but it doesn't have to be technical, they flash their cash and are obsessed with money to the point of talking about their salaries more than their opponents. They are arrogant in front of the camera more often than not, and are vocal about their taste in music. Even to what they wear outside of the ring resonates with certain members of the public, sometimes on a sub-conscious level.
