I hate the place. I don't mind roughing it in Wakefield or Cas-vegas or Costa del Batley.... but 100 miles to be spiked and/or chinned and stay in a shitty hotel.... no thanks :-( Liverpool is far better. Went for my cousin's stag do in June, definitely worth a return trip
I have to say Hopkins vs Winky, my last overseas trip for a boxing card and oh did i mention i got to meet Marvellous Marvin.
Nightlife in Cas town centre is awful lol, some right troublecausers and nutcases go out around there lol. Xscape is ok though.
For pure atmosphere Rogan-Sexton fights at the odessey was awesome, the NIA card with his Skelton fight was insane 2. Remember this pissed brummie tapping me on the shoulder late into the fight warning me and my mates that we oughta get out the arena sharp coz the Irish will riot if he wins... then 5 seconds later added... or loses. No shock that they didnt had a great few bevvies with some of em great stuff. Performance wise gotta be Calzaghe-Lacy because it was probably the first fight id attended where there was such hype over the guy coming to knock out 1 of my favourite fighters that i got those big-fight butterflies and was actually concerned. Then to be in attendance to see a top class demolishon job of Lacy's career really was a joy and massive relief. Btw Spencer Fearon's last card for pure entertainment and 50/50 fights was in its own way a revelation and that little spur of the moment trip was an unexpected treat. Big let down was probably Khan-Barrera, id seen Barrera main event in a 1 round job at the Albert Hall (bring it back snooty wankers) with Hatton on the card and this was pre-naz morales loss etc. I dont know if anyone has/had this particularly when you're young and seeing 1 of your 1st live fights you watch a guy on the card and you follow his career based on that 1 night! Was that night watching with me uncle that got me watching out for The Baby Faced Assassin and Im lucky to have been there. Then 10 years later the Khan fight came outta the blue I had to be there. How the fight played out with the cut plus Cookie and Enzo getting sparked it was a tough night very deflating tbh
Khan v Barrera I remember being the only one who clapped Khan to the ring in my section, and there were stoppage victories in most of the underbill fights (Hall over Pryce, Afolabi over Enzo and Martinez over Cook). Exciting fights and an exciting card. Good stuff.:good
One of the best fights I have ever seen "live" as amateur or pro was the ABA Quarter Final in 2003 between Martin Conception v Jimmy Fletcher...:yep I thought Conception got it, but Fletcher got the nod, it was a nonstop war, credit to both contestants...:deal
Ah man good for you, I was amongst fans who im sure appeared in the Hills have Eyes films i just did the Tim Henman pump fist for Khan. Yea the card was good and nicely matched but from a fan of a lot the losing fighters that night i was sorry drowning rather than toasting the night. Re-watching its not so bad now, im over it. honest
