imo: Lewis: Wlad: Chin Power Toughness Speed uppercut Jab I think it would be a toss up, prime vlad vs prime lewis but i think that lewis is the better fighter and would probably win 7 of 10 fights. and lewis is imo the best heavyweight h2h ever.
technically i think lewis has an edge in that he has more variety. Mentally i think wlad would lose before he was even in the ring. both could end the fight with one punch, however i think lewis is more likely to land it. Plus wlad would die if lennox lewis landed that uppercut on him lol
i think wlad has more power but lewis is just alot mor versatile, i mean this is the guy who forced vitali to brawl like a warrior, could the robotic wlad handle a fight like that? im not so sure
Lewis is more powerful than Wlad. Lewis is faster than Wlad. Lewis has a better jab than Wlad. This is not a 50/50 fight!
Any edge that you can give to Wlad is completely unproven against top level opposition. Especially the jab.
lewis might be all round more poweful, and he is definitely faster. but i think wlad right now has one of the best jabs out there and has more 1 punch power. it aint 50/50 and i would favour lewis fo-sho
1. Not more powerful, even saying Lennox' raw power matches Wlad's is debatable 2. Not faster. At least if we're talking the heavy artillery 245lbs version of Lewis -- not the skinny 225 lbs Lennox who destroyed Ruddock. 3. Definitely not a better jab than Wlad. Vitali was outjabbing Lewis for Christ's sake, admittedly a 38 year old version of Lewis but it was still quite shocking how Lewis was beat to the punch in the early jabbing contest. Lewis' advantages over Wlad lie in other areas IMO: 1. Inside boxing abilities 2. Putting together accurate combos 3. Uppercut 4. Ring intelligence and general ringmanship. Lennox has street fighting abilities and dirty tricks that Wlad does not posses simply because he never had to rely on them. 5. Chin. Lewis has proven to remain in control of his senses after taking heavy punishment. Still, even though I give Lewis a 60/40 edge prime Wlad would be the toughest and most skilled challenge Lewis ever faced.
The outcome should not even be in question. Lewis beat the better K-brother in 6 rds on the worst night of his career. Vlad would have no chance. If they fought 10 times Lewis would stop him 10 times. Say what you want about Rahman and McCall, but at their best they were sturdier fighters that Vlad ever dreamed to be. If truth be told, Lewis is probably the Greatest Heavy of all times in the H2H category. Maybe even over all.
Fair points! I agree with you in that Lewis' biggest advantage is his infighting, while Wlad's jab is clearly the superior one- Not only Vitali, but a younger Lewis also struggled with Ray Mercer's jab; Mercer landed 60% of his jabs in that fight. I also think Wlad's got the superior footwork, so to me, the answer of who wins depends on two things: Who's got Manny in the corner, and whether or not the fight stays at range. If the fight stays on the outside, I'd favor Wlad. That jab and straight right have landed routinely on superior defensive fighters to Lewis, and they certainly carry enough speed, accuracy, and power to do significant damage. If Lennox could get inside, I'd favor him. I'm not entirely sold on Wlad's inside game namely because his inside tactics since Steward came along has been to tie up and weigh down on his opposition to conserve his own energy while sapping theirs. Maybe he's still got one like we saw in the Barrett fight, but it's hard to say when we haven't seen it in years. If Lewis gets there, I think his inside game would really wear down Wlad and there would be alot of scoring opportunities there.
Good overall post. In most categories, both men are pretty comparable. While I think Wlad is every bit as powerful as Lewis, Wlad rarely sits down on his punches. Even his jab at times appears to be more arm than anything else these days. Though when he does sit down on the right hand, good night sweet prince. Against Brock in 06, it looked like he decapitated him. Even in his last fight against Chambers, he put a good chinned fighter to sleep with one punch. Though what stands out to me is how Wlad reacts to pressure or a heavy punch, true we haven't seen him panic since Peter 5 years ago. Though that was also the last time we seen him fight a legit puncher, and he didn't look too good in victory. So based on Wlad's lack of poise when the going gets tough, im gonna have to favor "The Lion" Lennox Lewis. His uppercut on the inside is what will probably do Wlad in, whose inside game consists of holding on for dear life to his oppenent until the ref jumps in to break the clinch up.
as good a jab as wlad does have, im not sure it is enough to prevent lewis fighting his fight. plus lewis has the heart to brawl when he has to, like he did vs vitali and bruno, would wlad really be able to stand and trade?
Lewis advised Sanders cause he knew him. They had the same promoter and he knew Sanders was fast starter with really good hand speed. He nicknamed him "the sniper" for a reason. Wonder if these 2 ever had a sparring session?! I pick Lewis but Klitschko definitely has a punchers chance. They both are similiar but Lewis has bette uppercuts and Wlad a better left hook.
ye anyone writing wlad off is stupid. but i think at the time it would have happened, somewhere between lewis-rahman and wlad-sanders, lewis would have to be a clear favourite.
