Pretty good breakdown Bokaj. As you say,it's about style,so the deeper things like chin,adaptability etc don't figure.

 

Obviously you only watched Tarver #3 , Calzaghe and Hopkins #2 fights.

True Jones ducked every real threat , but Ali ducked rematches with Foreman and Young and relied on a cheat to win against Foreman .

And I forgot to mention that Ali also avoided a rematch against Shavers

+ the ref stopped the fight too early, Foreman was up soon enough.

Don't know much about it. I find it sufficient to believe in that little thing I read , until convinced otherwise.

 

So many comments come up about Ali avoiding rematches with people. After the Shavers fight,Ali had very little ring time left. Up to the end of '75,he'd take on all comers. It's only when he got to the tail end of his career,he'd start being careful. Yet again,some people talk as if Ali was the only fighter to have done this. he's been on the short end of the stick when it comes to rematches himself. After FOTC,Frazier avoided giving Muhammad a rematch,like the plague. Answer this question. Which losing combatant gave the victor a tougher battle ? Ali against Frazier in '71,or Foreman against Ali in '74 ? I find the answer very easy. Between FOTC in March 1971,and the end of 1972,Frazier defended his title twice,against Daniels and Stander. During this time Ali fought 9 times against Ellis,Mathis,Blin,Foster M,Chuvlao,Quarry,Lewis,Patterson and Foster B. Nobody seems to bring this up. Plenty of ageing champions were reticent about giving rematches,at some time or other.

 

Also,Foreman did n't help his case for a rematch,when he virtually went AWOL during 1975,except for that pointless exhibition in Toronto. Ali said that if George had been busy during that year,he had have rematched him before taking on Frazier.

Ali's footwork allowed him to move effortlessly around the ring. he danced backwards throwing the jab and straight right hand with incredible accuracy, his ability to move so fluently is where the two styles differ most.
Roy's style is more explosive but was from a set stance he could throw big punches from deceiving angles which always makes him dangerous.
i cant find many comparisons between the two other than they both have exciting styles to watch and they will both go down as being great fighters in their own right

 

It's interesting,that after 36 years,some cannot believe that Ali legitimately beat Foreman,and come out with new excuses,which get more and more eccentric. Would n't surprise me if somebody claims that Angelo Dundee had drafted Harry Potter into Ali's corner,who pointed his wand at Foreman,shouted out "expectus petronum" at 2.58 minutes in the eighth round,and that Lord Voldemort had enchanted George into taking a dive ! Muhammad Ali won fair and square :fire :fire

Ref should properly enforce the rules and not let constant leaning on George, holding/pulling his head down.

The ropes were a factor. It's hard to hit yoyo, you know?
