    I agree.

Half the time I think it was Gatti's heart that kept him upright, he was in some absolute wars but I just don't see him as having one of the greatest chins of all time, all be it very good.

If Bennie Briscoe hadn't been ko'd by Rodrigo Valdes, I bet he would be high on the list of most people - but that one defeat really hurt him.

Also Joey Maxim's chin only let him down once - when murderous punching Bob Satterfield caught him cold in the first round. Apart from that one incident his chin never failed him in more than 100 fights (against some pretty big punchers too).

And Maxie Rosenbloom was only knocked out once in his first 290 bouts - when he decided to stay down, trying to claim a foul, after taking a low blow from Tommy Milligan.

I thought it was the Hatchetman that decapitated Maxim.

You and b.b. are of course right - it was Sheppard and not Satterfield, who ko'd Maxim! What on earth was I thinking?

Timing matters sometimes when threads like this are created, and it depends who happens to be around at a given moment.

Britton makes me think of Pastrano, who was only dropped by Torres in that final match from a liver shot. Harold Johnson did make Willie dance a wild jig with a big right and left hook follow up 30 seconds into round 13, but Pastrano certainly stood up to plenty of full size heavyweight competition during his career. (Rex Layne, Brian London, Tom McNeeley, Johnny Arthur, Franco Cavicchi, Joe Bygraves, a 201 pound Archie Moore, Dick Richardson. Unlike Bob Foster, Willie could play with the big boys.)

Domenico Bernasconi scored a knockdown in each of his two fights with Panama Al Brown. Typical of the Panamanian's greatness and resilience, he got up to win both times. I can't find evidence of Panama Al getting dropped in any of his other 165 recorded bouts.

T, of course we have no way of knowing which fighter in history had the
    "best chin".
But my way of thinking is different than most posters...Maybe I delve too deep'
Poster talk about Lamotta, Hagler etc.,great chins for thge fighters they fought and withstood bombs from guys that were of equal weights...
But could they if they somehow fought, through a miracle,The roster of
much larger and stronger men that Harry Greb fought in about 300 fights, and took blows [ and he certainly must have], from the likes of Gene Tunney, Tommy Gibbons,[he could hit ]Gunboat Smith, 200 pound
Bill Brennan,Jack [giant killer] Dillon, Joe Cox, Bartley Madden etc, all
who outweighed little Harry greb, by 15-50 pounds, and survived a 300 bout career without being kod as Greb accomplished..? I honestly
and truly think NOT...Hagler, rugged as he was had v67 bouts against men of EQUAL weights...Tough guy...But would he have survived the punches
of Harry Greb's, larger foes..? No, I say...Could Hagler or Lamotta, fought
THREE times more bouts than they did without wearing out later in their careers, and avoiding being kod..? You give the answer.
That is why I pick Greb having the most durable chin IMO ...b.b.

Camacho got sat on his arse against Oscar. He's got a fine chin but he's not on the top level for me.

I would also agree that Lamotta is right up there, maybe even THE most durable chin of all time?

Watch St Valentine's Day Massacre - the level of punishment was unreal!

It is a fact that Jake LaMotta was weight drained for the fight in 1951...
Supposedly he lost about 10-12 pounds prior to the fight to make the weight...Toughest S.B. i ever saw fight...
