Why is no one else voting in this poll?

My Segura stoppage is the only one up there so far.:huh

    Good fight, people. Vote.

Segura TKO round 7 or 8.

The main reason behind my pick is that I think Calderon has lost a step or two recently, being 35 and having been in some very rough and tough fights recently with Cazares and Mayol (dirty ****). Segura swings from the hips with heavy hands and doesn't stop coming and I think at this stage Calderon won't be able to deal with him. I think Calderon will have his moments early, but Segura will keep coming and catch up with him by the middle rounds and stop him.

I'm going for a sneaky Segura TKO win as well, I didn't like what I saw in the Mayol fights. We all know how quickly a fighter can decline, especially when they get past mid 30s and rely on reflexes and speed.

Segura will need to set a ferocious pace yet be prepared and know it will take time to break Calderon down, not get frustrated with missing. I believe the power will cause Calderon problems at some point during the night.

Would be stupid to rule out Calderon clinic though, hes done it enough times and if he does it next week, hes back in P4P contention.

Thinking about this fight has reminded me the need to watch Segura-Canchila 1 + 2, I remember the first fight being undercard to Cotto-Margarito (I think)....Some card! :thumbsup Really looking forward to next week

Can't wait for this fight. It can be argued that Segura is getting this fight at the time time, but if he pulls it off he should get massive props. I reckon he'll cause Calderon some difficult moments and the fight will end up going to points. Close fight, maybe controversial scorecards. Calderon wins the fight, Segura wins the event:lol:. I hope Segura wins:thumbsup.

I'd say he was getting into his prime around 2004, with the fight against Roberto Leyva.

There's not as much footage on youtube as you'd think, but if you get a chance try and watch any of these fights (not too sure if they're readily available):

    vs Roberto Leyva
    vs Gerardo Verde
    vs Daniel Reyes
    vs Ronald Barrera
vs Hugo Cazares I & II

I personally think the Cazares fights took a lot out of him. He hasn't really looked the same since (still good though). Calderon was small at minimumweight, never mind at light flyweight. While Cazares was a massive light flyweight (who's now campaigning with success up at super flyweight).

Im really looking forward to this one.

Unlike, Greg who thought Calderon was good against Iribe, I didnt think he was anywhere near his usual self. The "lucky" punch that put him down wouldnt have hit him 3-4 years ago. I think Calderons been on the slide for a while, certainly the two Mayol fights he was quite poor but their styles meshed horribly.

Segura is crude but I honestly think if Iribe can catch Calderon so can segura. I think it will be a little like a bullfight at the start and calderon will make Segura look silly and build up a lead. I think Segura catches him in the middle rounds and stops him in 8-9

Calderon wasnt good by his usual standards against Iribe, he was just brilliant by the standards of the Light-Fly division just now.

I honestly dont think that performance could be called brilliant on any level. The commentators comparing it to Willie Pep made it even worse.
I love Calderon but I think hes been on the slide for a while. Somebodys going to catch him soon. Could be Segura, I think Joyi would beat him now. Gonzalez needs to learn how to throw right hands before chasing Calderon though.

Calderon beats Joyi IMO. Gonzalez probably is too much for Calderon and takes a decision.

    Not too far away.

    Out by just two rounds.

How did the fight play out anyway? I wasn't able to watch it last night.

It was a quality fight! Calderon took the first few rounds imo; Segura was finding it difficult to land anything at all. But he kept on coming, applying relentless pressure. He caught Calderon on the ropes numerous times in the next few rounds, unleashing many punches on Calderon, to the head and body. Calderon did at times start firing back with hard(ish) counterpunches that landed flush on Segura but he couldn't put a dent in him. Ended in the 8th with Segura unleashing on Calderon in the corner. Calderon went down and remained on one knee for the full count.

    Full fight is on youtube!

Cheers Grievesy. Great minds think alike eh? Although you were more spot-on in your prediction than me.:good

Sounds like a quality bout. I tried to find it on youtube about an hour ago, but no joy. Will go look it up now.
