Ive only recently come to realise that Boxing is not as popular within the UK as i thought it was. Cant believe the amount of big fights that aint shown on tv here. Especially the terrestrial networks.

 

The issue is not so much (just) popularity. This issue is popularity v cost of showing them.

 

a lot of people like to see a big fight for one night. the problem is there aren't that many fights that happen in one year that attract a wider audience.

 

A lot of "fans" aren't really fans of the sport. They're just people with man-crushes on fighters.

That's what going to message boards (after watching the sport for over a decade) taught me.

Just how corrupt the sport was and still is today;
and another point related to that just how poor the scoring of fights is,

Overall, just how badly the sport is still run, it needs one body running it, one title, with a fair rankings system. Otherwise, at times it is a corrupt farce.

 

*Quality can overcome Quantity
*Just because someone lands more doesn't mean they won the fight or rounds
*Compubox is overrated
*One punch can change a whole fight and/or a fighter's career
*Awkwardness can be an advantage. Example- Montell Griffin
*Guys with "man crushes" on here can be blind to what's really going on in fights
*Many fighters are better than what people think they are
*Many people on here can't give credit where credit is due
*Watching fights and being in the ring are two totally different experiences
*There's really no such thing as a, "lucky punch"
*A win is still a win no matter what(unless it's a robbery)
*"Hyped up" "Exposed" or not fighters are still fighters and anyone who gets in that ring for a living earns my respect
*Workrate doesn't mean someone's landing
*Chess matches can be good to watch depending on who's fighting who
*A loss doesn't always "humble" fighters
*Great speed can overcome Great defense(I just learned that not too long ago lol)
*No matter how bad a fighter currently performs in the ring now you can't erase their past achievements if they had any
*Heart can't be learned either you have it or you don't
*Great trainers don't automatically make great fighters, the fighters need to want to succeed

-Boxing is fixed.
-Undefeated isn't worth anything with lack of opposition.
-Boxing isn't what it used to be (fighters dodging each other or waiting to fight smaller boxers or boxers passed their primes)
-Being a champion doesn't anything with the # of titles and politics... (great fighters not given chance to fight)
-Losses don't mean ****
-Some fighters, even if they have great skills, lack heart/courage.

-Some boxers are sometimes better than seem humanly possible (Mayweather vs Corrales, RJJ, etc.), and even if a boxer looks absolutely great and fantastic, someone can come along and dominate him...

as you´ve pointed out, the fact that styles makes fights. When one come to realise this. you cna appreciate the small differences better.

What ive come to realise through sparring, is how difficult it is, for the shorter fighters, with lesser reach, to close distance.
