    Kelly plans Gavin upset
21 August 2010 - David Boyle On September 18 Frank Warren promotes his Magnificent Seven bill at the LG in Birmingham.
Featuring on the card is Frankie Gavin, one of the most talked about British prospects of recent years. Facing him on the night will be Dundalk’s Michael Kelly, with the vacant Irish light-welterweight title the prize for the victor.
Despite being a big underdog, Kelly believes he can pull off an upset.
“I believe I can win,” he said. “I know how to fight and I know how to win.
“For all of my fights to date, I have had barely four weeks notice for a fight and it’s hard getting up and motivated for a fight, especially when you don’t even know who you are facing.”
This time around, Kelly has been afforded the luxury of a full training camp and he believes that will be evident on the night.
“Frankie is a hell of a fighter no question, but in me he is entering the unknown and I have read he plans beat me inside three rounds, and I wish him all the best in trying.
“The gym is just buzzing at the moment. John (Breen) works every fighter hard and Eamonn (Magee) is great to train with and motivates everyone.”
With the likes of Paul McCloskey, Jamie Conlan and Andy Murray as sparring partners, Kelly's camp is a no nonsense affair.
“I have been sparring Jamie and Michael McLaughlin and soon Paul McCloskey will be sparring which will be great, the need for sparring southpaws is so important.”

    Come on kelly

    The pride of Dundalk :happy:happy:happy

Just back from the Dubs All Ireland game. And I dont know how we got beaten today. We lead from the start up to the final minute and then Cork won by a ****ing point. The Dubs know how to ruin your night at times. A soon as Cork got that peno I felt that sinking feeling and low and behold they robbed us. Anyhow will give Cork praise for how they stuck in there and I hope they go on and lift Sam they deserve to win it after all these years as being 1 of the best teams around. So good luck to Cork in the final.

Very sporting Leighton. To be honest the Dubs only have themselves to blame. Lost their discipline when the pressure came on. When ye were 5 points up ye still played the negative game. If ye pushed on there ye would have buried us.

How oft do my thoughts in their fancy take flight
To the home of my childhood away,
To the days when each patriot's vision seem'd bright
Ere I dreamed that those joys should decay.

When my heart was as light as the wild winds that blow
Down the Mardyke through each elm tree,
Where I sported and play'd 'neath each green leafy shade
On the banks of my own lovely Lee.

I know Tommy but for this Dublin team that was the best we could of hoped to get with the draw we had. A untested full back line who will now hopefully grow together and be stronger. Added to that we found a quailty midfielder in McAudley he must get a All Star this year the find of the year. And O Gara is a kid and he is a handfull.

Your right if we would of pushed on we maybe would of won the game. We tried that for years but ended up getting thumped by Kerry and Tyrone when it mattered. Needs to find the right blend. But the future is looking rosey again. Have to take down my flag tomorrow dont fancy trying to walk accross a 6 foot wall after a couple of beers I would land in the flowers or the road at the back of the house.

On a plus side I had B Brogan to score first goal today so Mr Paddy Power will cushion the blow a wee bit.:good
