We often hear of trainers and boxing experts lament the fact that many American boxers are neglecting the "fundamentals".

Now my question is, what are some of the most commonly neglected/overlooked fundamentals that it appears trainers are not ingraining in their fighters or that fighters appear to neglect in the ring these days?

Anyone with any info, insights, or intelligently-formed opinions in this regard, please do share them.

    Thanks in advance.

Agree with both of the above posts. It is the basics, the little things that are going to make a big difference in the course of a boxers career whether amateur or professional. Once you master the basics and they are second nature to you, then you can begin to expand to create your own style that works best for you as an individual.

Not bringing the jab straight back as others have said. Squaring up, failing turning punches over, not holding your damn hands up, not keeping your chin tucked, and just overall bad punching technique are seen in boxing all the time.

I agree with the other posts. And also fighters not knowing how to defend themselves properly.

Footwork would be one, specifically the positioning relative to the opponent.

The biggest problem I see is a lack of fluidity and smoothness. Everyone's so herky jerky.

Fluidity & smoothness take time, once a boxer is comfortable in the ring & feels more settled he'll iron out the stress that causes solidness
