a couple of years ago this might have been a tremendous fight, but i think Shane might just have beat the prime out of Margarito. IMO Roach and Arum don't put Pac anywhere near a prime Margo, but once those whiskers are dented he's a quarter of the fighter, and Pac straight lefts his way to a unanimous points win, possibly even a late stoppage.
There's one person who's voted for a Margarito decision and he goes by the name of 'Raymondo'. So c'mon Raymondo explain yourself...I'm officially calling you out, LOL!
Can see Pacquiao fighting off the back foot for the most part, and for this reason I reckon it'll probably go the distance. Although that obviously changes if Margarito's chin has finally succumbed to the stupid amount of punishment he's taken in his last few fights. Even if Tony can hold the shots I think Pacquiao takes it pretty easily. He's got the footwork and stamina to execute the flurry and move game plan for the full 12 rounds. Margarito's class at cutting off the ring but I still can't see him being able to get close enough for long enough to really do anything significant. Christ, it's crazy how much difference 2 years makes in this sport. Wasn't long ago that the very idea of Pacquiao getting into the ring with Margarito seemed like a ridiculous idea, let alone virtually writing off any chance of Margo getting the win.
Btw, Achilles and Raymondo, I need to explain myself as i've just been pulled up for coming across as with a bit of a 'tude' lol. What i meant to say was, if I were placing a wager on Margarito then I would bet a propisition wager that Margarito wins by KO or TKO. I wouldn't touch the decision line because Margarito has to overcome that Pacquiao holds the P4P/strap (which usually makes the swing rounds go to the belt holder), Pacquiao more recognized in the US (Texas venue), Pacquiao flashier a la Leonard v. Hagler, Pacquiao more inclined to get away with fouls, Pacquiao is the good guy and Margarito the cheating villian, Everyone wanting Pacquiao vs Mayweather and the list goes on and on. Similar to a home football team...automatic goal advantage even before kickoff...
Pac takes this mid round stoppage for me. Reckon Tony is done at elite level. Its pull **** that this is for the 154 title when it is actually at 150. Whats next Pacs gna fight for the heavyweight title but set the catch weight at 155?
I agree with the TS completley , i do however disagree that Pacquiao will not be able to walk Margarito back in the clinch , you can not write off Pacquiao off as a small fighter anymore , we have more than enough evidence that Manny's core body strength is equal if not greater than all the top tier WW's , i think Pacquiao will bully Margarito physically and technically ...................... Pacquiao KO Margarito 10 After this fight Margarito will never be a relevant fighter again :deal
I actually think that this could be the last time we see Margarito in a boxing ring, I think he's going to take a hell of a battering in all honesty, and as much as he rightly has his haters, nobody can deny that he has a boatload of heart and he will not quit which could prolong the beating.
You really think Pacquiao can/will employ the same game plan as Mosley and be as physical? I don't know, i just think he hasn't got the same physicality to get the better of Margarito in the clinches, not to mention that ain't even his game or style anyway. If you're looking for a comparison then Pacquiao does what Cotto did in spots but Manny maintains it IMO.
Yep, spot on, no one can deny his heart and toughness, it's a shame what happened because boxing is poorer without people of Margarito's attitude of willing to fight everyone and bringing excitement. I certainly missed him on the sly. One of my concerns for Pacquiao is Margarito getting him to the ropes within the first 4 rounds and ending it with a body shot. However, Pacquiao gets away with wearing a pretty high protector so this should nullify the direct, belly shot. And Pacquiao also utilizes the turn and lead shot so well that I don't see a rib cage or liver shot being there for Margarito. Then we have the problem of a 4" leverage for rabbit or equilibrium shots. But with solid straights, those tall guys shrink after 6 rounds then you have space to outclass and do damage...you're right Margarito will look a mess.
Good thinking Jaso. Never thought of that, I'd always thought it was at the behest of the state athletic commission and of course the agreement of the fighters...:think
A report on The Scene with Roach say's "Roach is'nt overly concerned about what Margarito bring's", he also said he'd of preferred the fight at 147 instead of 151 (his usual tactics of trying to drain fighters). Roach and Arum are looking at how Mosley beat Margarito and are hoping Pacquiao will be able to do the same thing, which i think he will (except i don't think he'll KO Margarito, i don't believe Pacquiao hit's as hard as Mosley). I think Margarito will put up a better fight than Clottey did, but a UD for Pacquiao
