    Lee Q. Murray was a switch hitter. It served him well in his wars with Jimmy Bivins and Curtis "Hatchetman" Sheppard.

    thanks Surf,

    It says in boxrec that the ref disqualified Murray against Jersey Joe for "not trying"

    Any idea what that was about?

    I've looked into that one I can honestly say that I just don't know. It makes no sense whatsoever. This man had been in wars with many of the top heavies; deadly hitters like Sheppard, Harry Bobo and Turkey Thompson, plus great boxer-punchers like Jimmy Bivins. He didn't try and "survive" against them even when getting hurt and floored and nearly KO'd. So why go into "survival" mode against Walcott(who wasn't doing any major damage to Murray from what I've read)??

    A mystery....

    yeah that is weird. I don't think i've ever heard of someone being disqualified for not trying before.

    and it kind of sounds like Jake LaMOtta when he fought threw the fight with Billy Fox.... or so suspected of.

    Speaking of which, Jake himself was a switch hitter, and there is some footage of him shifting to a southpaw stance.
