Lucky? I don't think so. Mayweather literally invented 24/7 and HBO knows he is their biggest draw and he would do the same numbers if he fought on Showtime.GBP is lucky he does business with them. They have no binding contracts,it is fight by fight and GBP has benefited greatly. What bigger fight has GBP been involved with that wasn't with Floyd?
They obviously all benefit from each others. It still doesn't change the fact that no other fighter has had as much promotional backing in the history of the sport. Let's not forget that Mayweather-Marquez had to be pushed up to September. A fight that wasn't selling well for the planned July 2009 date... TECATE heavily helped the over 1 million PPV figures. If it's not for TECATE, not sure it reaches 800 000 buys...even with 24/7.
That'll suit me. I'm of staying up til 5am to watch fights in Vegas I'm looking at you Floyd
Floyd was coming out of retirement and had an EXTRA LONG promotion for the fight b/c of his "injury" and JMM has a VERY LARGE follwing in the US. Shane is a bigger US draw than Cotto and that's between TWO US FIGHTERS and their numbers vs PAC/Cotto only did slightly better. Which is impressive b/c neight PAC or Cotto are US fighters yet they had very comparable numbers in PPV buys in the US compared to Floyd/Shane.
shane is a bigger draw than cotto!?!?!?! ummm cotto who sells out MSG, isn't a bigger draw than Mosley, who has never been an A side on a ppv his whole carreer? what reason do u have to think that Mosley is a bigger draw than Cotto? Even Roach said that Cotto was the bigger draw.
Exactly and wasn't it Cotto's first and only time on 24/7 ? 24/7 instantly boosts a promotion. Add the same sponsorships for that fight as the ones in Mayweather fights and you may have had an extra 200 000 buys.
I wouldn't say it was his next best option...more like a better option for Arum, money wise. And from what he said a couple weeks back...he was kind of implying that he's only fighting Margarito because he has to.
I'm sorry but u make absolutely no sense...cotto and pac are two of the top three draws in the US, and a fight between them couldn't do better than May-Shane (who is not a draw at all), and barely more than May-JMM (who is not a draw)...if anything it shows u how much more of a draw floyd is than manny...u confuse shane being a good fighter with him being a draw...what ppv numbers do u have to think that jmm or shane are draws?
I would give him no credit for fighting someone other than Williams, Martinez, or Berto. Anything else is a waste of time.
