Briggs stamina is so poor, though.

It's obvious but if he can't get it finished in the first 3 rounds he'll basically win by default. Vitali is a smart enough fighter though and he will know all he has to do is weather the storm and not put himself in any danger.

Vitali is regressing at a rapid rate imo, but Briggs isn't the man to beat him.

I agree, but Im not so sure that Vitali will put the right type of pressure back on Briggs to tire him out quickly, thats why I see the fight going at least 5 or 6 rounds and possibly the distance if Vitali runs.
I think your right though, Briggs will probably have a hard time finding Vitali as he will run his ass off, and try and stop Briggs late.

Briggs is just so immobile these days, that's the biggest problem I think. He actually has the same reach as Vitali but he's more of a hook and uppercut guy than a long jabber, so laying the leather on Vitali could be tougher for him than vice versa.

The stamina thing is the other issue. I agree with lefthook31, I don't think Vitali is going to be marching straight across the ring and getting all up in Briggs's face so I don't think Shannon's going to be on the verge of collapse after just a couple rounds or anything. But he's pretty unlikely to be hearing any scorecards.

I think an early balls-to-the-wall assault is his only real option here. That might fail, but it's better than his other ones - hiding in a shell for a timid points loss or trying to save some gas in the tank but being too battered to do much with it by the later rounds.

I actually have no problem with this fight; even if there's the chance it does only last a few rounds, they'll be more interesting rounds at least than a long-range jabfest. Briggs will make the press conferences disrespectfully amusing and rustle up some hype and perhaps we'll get a few fireworks.

I spoke to Briggs and gave him some funny one liners for Vitali. I thought he was going to fall of his chair he was laughing so hard. He actually asked me if he could use them in the press conference , so I expect it to be pretty funny.

Nowhere in the post you quoted did I defend Briggs as a worthy challenger....you got issues or something?

Before you make unfound assumptions..you should read my actual comments in this very thread...right above your "contract" post actually. Its meaningless but I respect Briggs for stepping up while the so called contenders sit on their rankings.

" Not right " , has a different meaning in the UK, it's slang for," a sandwich short of a picnic","knitting with only one needle"," the lights are on ,but there's no -one home,", " a shilling short of a pound "not plugged in""," not wired up right",etc.

In America "not right" is slang for extra sized condoms..I have no idea what you are blabbering about. I honestly thought you were French who have shared are slang since the Great Indian Wars.

I don't think people realize how unworthy Briggs has been the last 3 years.

Here is his record since his one sided loss to Sultan Ibragimov in 2007

    Takes 2 1/2 years off..

2009: Marcus McGhee- No Contest Briggs tested positive for steroids

    2010: Rafael Pedro KO 1
    Dominique Alexander KO 1
    Rob Calloway KO 1

Are you kidding me? Who are these bums? How in the world did he earn his title shot after taking over a 2 year layoff then beats up on 3 tomato cans?

First Kevin Johnson, then Alberto Sosnowski, now Shannon Briggs. It's quite clear what Vitali is doing. He is fighting 3rd rate challengers, he is simply finding ways to hold onto his throne longer than he should. Why don't you fight a real heavyweight contender for once in your life Vitali?

Who would that worthy challenger be?
If you had to pick from your list of those three Johnson Sosnowski or Briggs who would you choose?

If you threw David Tua in the mix, who would you choose? Theres just no worthy challengers at all, and at least from Briggs we know hes not coming into the fight with 50 wins and 16 Ko's and most likely wont look to languish on the ropes and stick his tongue out for 12 rounds.

All three are pathetic fighters. I would choose Johnson, because of reasons unknown to me, he somehow weaseled his way into a # 10 Ring Magazine ranking when he stepped into the ring with Vitali. How he managed to earn that ranking I will never know.

David Tua got floored and outboxed by a washed up Monte Barrett. He's out of the picture.

That will be your little secret.
